  • ATTENTION ALL CLIENTS: Signature Financial of Thunder Bay purchased Hunt Club Accounting & Tax in the fall of 2024 and all of our clients will need to authorize Signature Financial as your Representative with CRA. This will allow us to continue to complete your tax returns and access your account at CRA.

    Because of a change to the process for Authorizing Representatives by CRA in July 2025, we can no longer add ourselves as your representative easily. CRA implemented this change to better protect individuals from unscrupulous actors. If you have not added us as your representative directly in your myCRA account or worked with our Admin Staff to complete the authorization process, we will require your latest Notice of Assessment (NOA) that was issued at least 6 months ago. Please ensure you upload your NOA with your other tax documents.

If they review your return for this expense and you cannot provide a travel log, they will not allow the deduction. Please keep this log for your own records.

  • Moving expenses: You can claim moving expenses if your place of employment changes (either with the same employer or a new employer). Your new home must be 40 km or more closer to the new work location than your old home. If you are self-employed, you can claim moving expenses if you are running your business from a new location and your new home is 40 km or more closer to that new location than your old home.

  • Charitable Donations: Charitable donations do not have to be submitted every year. You can collect them for up to 5 years and then submit them. Why…the benefit you get is 14% of the first $200 and 29% of everything over $200 so it is more advantageous to save them up. Also, our charge for entering donations may be more than the benefit you get for small amounts (less than $80).
