    Education Committee Call for Evidence
  • Amid a worrying decline in the number of children reading for pleasure, the Education Committee in the UK Parliament has launched a new inquiry to understand how reading can be nurtured, and what its benefits are. It covers a broad range of topics but for libraries it includes two key questions about :

    • How have changes in the number of local libraries and library opening hours impacted on children and young people's access to books outside school?
    • How effective has the Summer Reading Challenge been and what steps can be taken to further increase take up?

Libraries Connected will be submitting a formal response on behalf of public libraries, so we are really keen to hear your feedback. Please take 5 minutes to complete the survey here.
