Overview:
Kent Downtown Partnership (KDP) is offering grants to assist business and property owners improve their building façades within the Historic Downtown Kent District bounded by Smith Street to the north, Titus Street to the south, 4th Avenue to the West and Central Avenue to the East (collectively, the “District”).
The KDP thanks WAFd Bank for its generous contribution to the program.
The total KDP budget for this program in 2026 is $20,000.
Grants may be awarded in any amount within the budget, including possibly one grant award for up to $20,000 for the year’s program.
- Applicants are limited to owners of buildings and businesses located within the District.
- Applicants may apply for multiple buildings or businesses within the District.
Projects to enhance the appearance of an existing façade eligible for consideration under this grant program include, but are not limited to, painting, signage, lighting, awnings, artistic installations, landscaping, and other elements that improve “curb appeal” of the building.
The grant does not cover ongoing or routine maintenance such as fixing leaks, replacing broken windows/doors, graffiti cleanup, or general upkeep. Structural changes or repairs, unless directly related to enhancing the building’s appearance, will not be covered unless they also address the aesthetic or historical integrity of the building.
Final decisions on all applications and grant decisions are subject to the sole discretion of KDP. Considerations may include impact on the District, consistency with other facades, and project readiness.
All work must comply with applicable laws, including city regulations, and receive necessary permits and approvals. Prior to submitting an application, applicants should discuss their project with KDP for compliance with this program, and with city officials to determine necessary permits and approvals.
Grants will be paid to successful applicants by KDP upon KDP’s verification of:
- Invoices for labor and materials paid by the applicant for the project; and
- Photos of the work completed to that date
