• The pet is evenly lit, ideally with cool and/or natural light. Avoid harsh highlights or shadows. Avoid photos that were taken with flash.
• All of the pet is in focus. For example, if the camera focused on the pet's nose and the rest of the face is slightly blurry, I can't accurately recreate that lost detail in a painting.
• Your pet is as naked as possible! Even regular collars and harnesses can translate poorly when painted. Please do not submit photos of pets in aversive gear such as choke chains, prong collars. invisible fence or shock collars.
• The perspective is low, displaying the pet's head and shoulders which can easily be separated from the background. A photo taken from more of a top down angle may translate to a painting in which the pet appears to be floating in mid air.
• The pet's body language looks relaxed or happy. Choose photos of pets with ears up and/or forward, eyes soft or playful, mouth closed or floppy. Avoid signs of fear, stress or discomfort such as ears sideways or back, yawning, panting, exaggerated or avoidant (nervous) side eye, hunched or head lowered posture, tucked tails, etc.
• Offering a variety of high quality photos for me to choose a main reference from is best! Feel free to submit additional, poorer quality or copyrighted images with details of the pet that the main reference photo(s) lack. Let me know if an image is copyrighted, if the image is not watermarked.

• Copy/paste links to your photos posted on social media or from your google drive. Ensure privacy or share settings are set to public or "anyone with the link can view" so I can actually see them! You can paste links into the box below.
• Email photos directly. This may require multiple emails due to file size limitations, and this is fine with me! Please put "reference photo" in the subject line. creaturedcanvas@gmail.com

Let's get to the tricky part - payment 

Half payment is required up front to reserve your spot, and is non-refundable for any reason. The second half plus the cost of shipping, is due once the painting is finished. Payment is required to ship. You may choose to pay the entire amount up front.

Terms and Conditions

This is an agreement between artist Nickala Squire (Creatured Canvas) and the client submitting this commission request form. The client must send half or full payment within 7 days of submission or the commission request will be void. If not paid in full, client must pay the remaining cost of the painting as well as the shipping cost before the painting is shipped.

The artist reserves the common law copyright to all works created by them, including all reproduction rights and statutory copyright. Client may not reproduce the artwork for sale. Client may not claim the art as their own work and must give credit to Nickala Squire or Creatured Canvas.

After the commission is completed the client will be sent a digital photo of the finished piece. Minor adjustments may be requested by the client but will be completed at the discretion of the artist. If the client is not 100% satisfied the deposit will not be refunded. Once the client approves of the final artwork and the total amount is paid. The artist will ship the artwork and provide a tracking number after full payment is received.

Most pet portraits are complete within 1 month of starting, but I cannot not guarantee a timeline. Depending on other commissions, my health and seasonal events I can easily become overwhelmed with the workload. Thank you for your understanding.
