COURSE DESCRIPTION
CompTIA Linux+ Certification Training Program
DC 37’s Education Fund, in conjunction with Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), offers a CompTIA Linux+ certification course to eligible DC 37 members. Throughout this Linux+ training, you will gain hands-on experience in Linux system administration, including command-line operations, storage and network configuration, and managing system services with systemd. You will learn to implement security best practices—such as permissions, firewalls, and hardening—while also developing automation skills using shell scripting and Python. Additional essential topics covered during your training include backup and restore, virtualization, Git version control, and troubleshooting hardware, OS, networking, and performance issues. The certification validates fundamental Linux administration skills, covering topics such as installation, administration, X-Windows, cloud technologies, networking, and security.
All sessions of this course are offered virtually and members will be provided with digital handouts and/or other supplemental material to complete the course and prepare for certification. Additionally, some of the sessions may require participants to complete independent hands-on, practice assignments as part of the course. Again, these practice assignments are setup to prepare you to sit for and pass the Linux+ certification exam.
This certification course requires members to have certain technical equipment, specifically:
A PC or laptop running Windows 7 OS or higher and a stable internet connection (no phones or tablets)
Webcam and microphone (camera must be on during all class sessions)
Additionally, members may be required to submit documentation of previous education, current certification(s) and/or to take and complete a technical assessment to determine your candidacy to successfully enroll in this course. To sit for the Linux+ certification exam as part of this program, members will need to complete assignments/homework and avoid poor attendance (logging in to class late, logging out of class early or not having your webcam turned on).
