  • HFLA Loan Application Form

  • Thank you for your interest in applying for an HFLA loan.

Before you begin our application, please make sure that you meet the following eligibility requirements:

    • You are Jewish
    • You reside in British Columbia (exceptions made for students raised in B.C. that are temporarily studying out-of-province)
    • You are a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or Convention Refugee (applicants on a work or student visa are able to apply but only for a $1,800 Visa Holder Loan).
    • You are 19 years of age or older

Please note that HFLA loans are designed to support individuals and families experiencing financial need. To determine eligibility, HFLA follows BC Housing's income guidelines. Based on this criteria, if you are a single person or couple with a gross income above $84,780, or a family of three or more with a gross income above $134,140, you may not qualify for our charitable services. Please note, however, that special consideration may be given for families with high Jewish participation costs (school, camps etc) that are above the $134,140 threshold.

This loan application should take about 15 minutes or so to complete. If, however, you need to take a break, simply press the "Save" button and follow the instructions so that you can complete the application later. Please note that you DO NOT need to create a jotform account to save your work. Simply go to the bottom option that reads "skip create an account".

You will receive an email confirming your application submission. Our offices will then review your application for errors and omissions and be in touch with you if we have any questions or concerns.

Once your application is deemed complete, a volunteer board member will call you to arrange a virtual interview at a mutally agreeable time.

Please email jwaselhfla@gmail.com with questions or if you have any technical issues while completing this application.

  • Eligibility Confirmation

  •
  • HFLA no longer offers “top-up” loans, except in situations of true emergency or serious financial crisis. We understand that unexpected challenges can arise, and when they do, we will always do our best to be there for you and respond quickly.

For all other circumstances, we ask borrowers to finish repaying their current loan before applying again.

One of the important parts of HFLA’s work is not only providing financial support, but also helping borrowers strengthen their long-term financial planning. Our mandate is not to operate as a revolving line of credit, but to help individuals move through a challenging period and toward greater stability. Completing a loan is a meaningful part of that journey. It allows borrowers to close one chapter before beginning another, and it offers a sense of accomplishment, clarity, and progress that can be incredibly empowering.

If you are a current borrower, please do not complete a new application without first sending an email to Joanna at jwaselhfla@gmail.com explaining your circumstances. She will review your situation and provide guidance on whether you can submit a new application at this time and what steps to take next.
