You are invited to participate in a web-based online survey on transmasculine and trans male fans’ relationship to manga and anime-related media. This is a research project being conducted by Leo McDonagh, a student in the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies at the University of Tokyo. It should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

    ELIGIBILITY:

    • Transgender men or transmasculine non-binary people who have been a fan of manga or anime-related media at some point.

    PARTICIPATION

Your participation in this survey is voluntary. You may refuse to take part in the research or exit the survey at any time without penalty. You are free to decline to answer any particular question you do not wish to answer for any reason.

You will receive no direct benefits from participating in this research study. However, your responses may help us learn more about how transmasculine people and trans men relate to gender depictions and masculinity portrayed in manga and anime.

    RISKS

The possible risks or discomforts of the study are minimal. You may feel a little uncomfortable or sad answering personal survey questions about your experience as a transgender/non-binary person, or questions about transphobia.

Jotform does not collect identifying information such as your name, email address, or IP address. Therefore, your responses will remain anonymous. No one will be able to identify you or your answers, and no one will know whether or not you participated in the study. At the end of the survey you will be asked if you are interested in participating in an additional interview over Zoom, in person, or via Discord, LINE, or email. If you choose to provide contact information such as your phone number or email address, your survey responses may no longer be anonymous to the researcher. However, no names or identifying information would be included in any publications or presentations based on these data, and your responses to this survey will remain confidential.
