Overview
The Summer Youth Camp is designed for youth ages 9–12 and will be held Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, at The Longhorn Project, also known as the Center for Agriculture, Science, and Engineering (CASE), located at the NASA Johnson Space Center.
Campers will participate in engaging lessons on longhorns, agriculture, horticulture, lab specimens, chemistry experiments, visual arts, culinary arts, and space exploration. Campers will gain hands-on experience feeding and caring for the longhorns while learning basic showmanship skills. Horticulture lessons focus on the cultivation of Texas native plants, vegetables, and flowering plants. Space exploration activities include a guided tour of the George W.S. Abbey Rocket Park and the Saturn V Rocket Building.
The camp coordinator is a certified teacher and serves as the Lead Science Teacher and Field Trip Coordinator. The program is supported by the Executive Director, Project Manager, junior counselors, and guest speakers.
The $350 camp fee includes a camp T‑shirt, daily snacks, and art and science project supplies.
Site access requires a NASA JSC badge for adults providing camper transportation and is limited to two badges per camper. Drivers must be U.S. citizens, and names must match the driver’s license exactly. A badge request will be submitted for each qualifying adult.
Parents and guardians, and the campers siblings (under 16 years of age), are invited to an end‑of‑camp ceremony on Friday, June 5, from 1:00 PM–2:30 PM. The celebration will include longhorn walking demonstrations, a keepsake photo opportunity, camper art and science projects, a slideshow highlighting the week’s activities, and homemade ice cream made by the campers. Please note: No additional badges for site access will be issued for this event.
The Longhorn Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring Texas heritage and the spirit of space exploration by providing agricultural and STEM education to youth.
Campers must be 9 years of age by 6/1/2026.
