About the award
This award honours the individual who has inspired the next generation of civil engineers in the most innovative and engaging way. Using their enthusiasm and communication skills they spread the message about what a great career civil engineering is, to young people who otherwise wouldn’t have thought of this career. This may be through social media, blogs, vlogs, photography, storytelling, the arts or through activities with schools, charities or other organisations.
Minimum entry requirements
Entries are open for all individuals who:
1. Are a current ICE member
2. Are registered as a STEM Learning Ambassador
3. Have completed/recorded STEM activity with the Regional Support Team in 2025.
Individuals are invited to nominate themeselves by completing the information below.
Judging criteria
Entrants will be judged on a common criteria, aimed at rewarding the individual who most clearly demonstrates commitment to inspiring the next generation and does so in a way that successfully inspires young people to go on to study civil engineering/STEM subjects.
A panel of judges will assess each entry according to the extent to which it demonstrates:
1. Innovation
- They will have found a unique way to reach and inspire young people.
- They may have used a variety of channels to do so.
2. Quality
- The individual has brought enthusiasm and experience to an audience of young people.
- They have provided appropriate and useful information to enable young people to make informed decisions on their next steps to becoming a civil engineer.
- Through their professionalism and passion they will have acted as an inspiring role model.
3. Impact
- They will have reached and received positive feedback from young people, including those from under-represented backgrounds.
- They may also have inspired colleagues to become STEM Ambassadors or have inspired other STEM Ambassadors to adopt a similar approach. Alternatively, they may have worked with the ICE to enhance its outreach.
