  • Australian Youth Bridge Awards – Guidelines for Nominations & Selection

    Purpose of the Awards
The Australian Bridge Federation (ABF) Youth Awards recognise outstanding youth players who demonstrate excellence, commitment, sportsmanship, and contribution to the Australian bridge community. These awards aim to encourage high performance, foster long-term development, and celebrate both individual and partnership achievements.

There are four awards in total — the Helman-Klinger Achievement Award, Hills-Hurley Trophy, Helman-Klinger Masterpoint Award, and Andrew Reiner Trophy, with nominations accepted only for the first two categories.

    General Nomination Guidelines
Eligibility: Nominees must be eligible youth players under the ABF criteria (born on or after 1 January 2000 for this years awards).
Evidence: Submissions should include supporting details such as results, conduct, partnership development, and contributions to the youth community.
Selection: The ABF Management Committee (or appointed Youth Awards Panel) reviews all nominations and determines recipients.
Repeat Winners: The only award that can be won on multiple occasions is the Andrew-Reiner Trophy.
Each nominator may submit one nomination per award category.

    Selection process

All nominations must be submitted to the Interim ABF Youth Coordinator through this form.

The selection committee comprises one vote from each state via their Youth Committee Representative(s), along with votes from the Captains of Australian representative teams. For the Andrew Reiner Trophy, where all international team captains are in agreement, the award may be granted without requiring a full panel vote.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2025 ABF YOUTH AWARDS CLOSE ON WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 31st AT 5.00pm AEDT.

  • HELMAN-KLINGER AWARD

Recognises: The youth player who demonstrates outstanding ability, achievements, sportsmanship, attitude, and contribution in the calendar year.

Contributions to partner development, youth programs, state associations, and broader bridge community.
Demonstrated commitment through training, study, or mentoring.
Notes: This is a holistic award — not just for results.
