The British Council complies with data protection law in the UK and laws in other countries that meet internationally accepted standards.     The British Council Palestine will use the information that you are providing in connection with processing your application for the Higher Education Scholarships for Palestinians (HESPAL) programme.

    We will share the following details with your choice of UK partner universities for selection purposes: your name, field of study, Palestinian home university, reference number of your UK university application, and HESPAL application if required by UK university.

    If you are selected for the HESPAL scholarship placement, we will share with your Palestinian home universities: your name, UK university placement, and field of study.   

    We share with the HESPAL funders—the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, Pears Foundation, Amjad & Suha Bseisu Foundation, and the Department for Education— for selection and reporting purposes, and upon request: your name, UK university placement, field of study, and home Palestinian university.

    The British Council can hold your data for these purposes.

    I. Application Accuracy and Integrity: I hereby affirm that my application and all supporting documents, are truthful, accurate, and complete. I understand that any significant errors or omissions in the information provided may result in the denial, withdrawal, or termination of the HESPAL Scholarship.

    II. Fair Selection Process: I acknowledge that the selection process will be conducted fairly, and I shall neither seek nor accept any unfair advantage. The British Council commits to avoiding any unfair promotion or disadvantage to any applicant. I understand that securing an unfair advantage may lead to the non-offer, withdrawal, or termination of the HESPAL Scholarship.

    III. Course of Study Selection: I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to identify a course that responds to my academic and career plans at one of the UK Higher Education Institutions participating in the HESPAL programme.

    IV. Entry Clearance Information: I undertake to inform the British Council of any factors, such as previous criminal convictions or associations with terrorist organizations, that may hinder obtaining a visa or entry clearance for studying in the UK. I understand that failure to secure a visa may result in the withdrawal of the Scholarship offer.

    V. Changes of Circumstances: I agree to promptly notify the British Council if my circumstances change due to events beyond my control or unforeseen circumstances. While reasonable steps will be taken to facilitate the Scholarship under changed circumstances, the British Council reserves the right to withdraw the offer if deemed in the best interest of the applicant, the UK Higher Education Institution, the Palestinian university, or the British Council.

  • Data Protection

    Thank you for providing us and the UK Higher Education Institutions participating in HESPAL with information about yourself on this form. We will look after the information carefully and use it to consider your suitability for the scholarship and to manage the application process. It will be made available to staff at the British Council. It may also be made available for the same reasons to funders of HESPAL, and to members of any panel that interviews you, should an interview be needed. Your information will also be passed to UK Higher Education Institutions to help secure a place on a course in the UK. After we know that you have a confirmed place on a course we will ask you again for permission to use the information in new ways that will become necessary as you proceed to take up your scholarship. If you are unsuccessful the information will be held securely for a year and then will be destroyed.

    In signing this application form for a HESPAL scholarship you accept that you will be bound by these conditions. You also accept that we will use the information you have given us in the ways we have described.
