Honoring Juanita Savage-Person
Juanita Savage-Person was the daughter of the late Rev. H. V. and Martha Savage, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. As a teenager, she worked at the Kitchen alongside her siblings and served as her father’s assistant during the early 1970s. She later assumed the role of Executive Director of the MLK Kitchen for the Poor, a position she held for 17 years.
Juanita was a devoted servant of her community, showing love and compassion in countless ways—paying utility and housing bills out of her own pocket and providing furniture for those in need. She was a natural problem solver who always did her best to help others, especially during times when they were unable to help themselves.
Juanita Savage-Person was truly a pioneer in our community, and we honor her legacy with this scholarship.
This year, up to two scholarships, each ranging from $500 to $1,000, will be awarded.
