Let's Learn about Safe Travel for Pets!
Buckle Up:
Dogs should be secure in a carrier or with a chest-style harness in the backseat. Run a seat belt through the loop on the back of the harness, or use a clipped dog seat belt and attach to the harness itself.
Crates and Carriers:
Using a secured pet carrier or kennel is another safe travel method. Cats and smaller animals can be placed in portable-style carriers secured by seat belts, ratchet strap, or bungee cord. Pillows are recommended to reduce movement.
Carriers may also be placed on the floor behind a front seat. Medium- and large-sized animals should travel in a durable kennel secured in the vehicle’s cargo area. In all cases, the carrier or kennel should be fastened as securely as possible.
Dividers:
Dividers offer helpful containment, the safest option for the animal is to secure the animal within the cargo space to ensure maximum safety.
