RI School Nurse of the Year (SNOY) Nomination Form
Annually, RICSNA publicly recognizes a Rhode Island school nurse who has demonstrated excellence in school nursing practice and leadership in school health. The School Nurse of the Year is recognized at the RICSNA spring event and at the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) Annual Conference. Nomination forms are due by February 14, 2026.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this award, the school nurse must meet the following criteria: 1. A registered professional nurse. 2. A current ACTIVE member of RICSNA and NASN and has maintained membership for at least two years. 3. Currently employed in a full-time position working as a school nurse in RI.
Nominations
Nominations may be submitted by anyone who has had a direct working relationship with the candidate. A school nurse may also self-nominate. Up to two letters of recommendations may also be attached to this nomination form. The nominee’s resume and high quality photo of the nominee are required for submission. As such, this should be an open nomination process to allow for collaboration with the nominee and facilitate collection of pertinent supporting documentation.

Nominee’s Qualifications for SNOY based on the School Nursing Practice Framework

Care Coordination: Please explain how the nominee’s expertise within the domain of Care Coordination. Examples could reflect clinical knowledge, skills, and collaboration efforts of the school nurse.
Leadership: Please explain how the nominee excels as a leader within the nurse’s school or broader community. Examples may include how the nurse shares expertise or mentors others, models health behaviors and self-care, or how the nurse engages in advocacy, involvement in professional organizations.
Community/Public Health: Please explain how the nominee is a leader in Community and Public Health. Examples may include how the nurse provides inclusive care, engages in screening and surveillance efforts, teaching health promotion topics, or engagement with community partners.
Quality Improvement: Please explain how the nominee practices within the doman of Quality Improvement. Examples may include data collection efforts, improvement projects the nurse has engaged, goal setting and performance improvement efforts of the nominee.

Selection Process
Nominations will be selected by a committee of at least three judges with expertise in school nursing. RICSNA Board Members shall be eligible for nomination. Nominees and nominators may not serve on the selection committee. All nominees and nominator will be notified of the status of the nomination.
