2026 Piano Solo Festival Application

For participation in the Piano Solo Festival at University of Northwestern - St. Paul - Dr. Richard Lange, coordinator.
Festival Information

The application form and non-refundable entry fee of $32 must be submitted before February 23, 2026. The virtual preliminary round will include a submission of a YouTube video recording to Dr. Lange at ralange@unwsp.edu. This video is due February 23, 2026. Please introduce yourself and your piece in your recording, or label accordingly. The final round will be held in person on the UNW campus on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 3 pm in Nazareth Chapel. Finalists and teachers will be notified by email March, 14, 2026. For more information, please contact Dr. Lange. *Recordings must be limited to a maximum of 8 minutes.
Eligibility

The festival is open to all piano students, grades 4-12. *Younger students may email ralange@unwsp.edu to request an exception.
Categories

Category 1 (grades 4-6), Category 2 (grades 7-9), Category 3 (grades 10-12)
Repertoire Requirement

A solo work from the standard classical repertoire, a contest piece, or a standard gospel arrangement. Classical repertoire must be original scores only, no arrangements. Repeats may be omitted. All music must be memorized.
Awards

Category 1: 1st place - $50, 2nd place - $35; Category 2: 1st place - $75, 2nd place - $50; Category 3: 1st place - $100, 2nd place - $75
Previous Winners

Past first-prize winners must advance to the next grade category.
Finalists

Four to six finalists from each category will be selected. An additional $32 finalist fee will be required to participate in the finalist recital.
