WPA Committee Descriptions
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee works with staff to lead efforts related to recruitment and retention of members. Furthermore, members of this committee review member enrollment, reinstatement and transfer applications to ensure applicants have no ethical violations and have met the requirements for membership. The membership committee meets 1-2 times per year.
Education Committee
The Education Committee develops the organization’s key educational programs, including selecting speakers for the Spring and Fall Conferences and coordinating Grand Rounds. The full committee meets twice per year to set priorities, while subcommittees for each conference and Grand Rounds meet monthly leading up to their events. Members help ensure high-quality, relevant programming that supports the professional growth of our members.
Legislative Committee:
The WPA Legislative Committee works closely with and provide direction to the organization's lobbyist(s) to: 1) monitor and influence legislation that affects mental & behavioral healthcare and the psychiatric profession; and 2) educate and inform WPA membership on advocacy efforts. The Legislative Committee meetings quarterly and more frequently if necessiary.
Media Relations / PR Task Force
The Media Relations / PR Task Force works to strengthen communication and connection among members, highlight resident involvement, and increase the organization’s presence within the community. The group supports projects such as the member newsletter, recommending website updates, and promoting resources like the speakers bureau and online member directory. The task force will meet approximately every six weeks as it gets established
