Apply for MARCAN Membership
- To apply for membership with MARCAN, please submit the information requested below. If you are already a member, please DO NOT use this form to renew your membership. Renewal instructions are sent via email. If you cannot locate that email, contact us at marcan.board@gmail.com.
- MARCAN memberships are open to any local, state, or federal law enforcement employee. Members are often crime or intelligence analysts, but law enforcement employees of any role may join.
- Membership dues are $40 the first year and $35 every year thereafter. College students using a school email address may join for $15 but must provide a copy of a valid college ID. Interns or volunteers actively involved with a Crime or Intelligence Analysis Unit at a law enforcement agency qualify for free membership and must provide documentation on agency letterhead signed by the supervising analyst.
- Each membership year runs on the calendar year (January 1 – December 31).
If you register using a personal email address (Gmail, Hotmail, etc.), we reserve the right to require proof of employment or request additional information in order to process your application.

Full

Cost: $40 first year; $35 renewal

Qualifications: Professionals (sworn, non-sworn, or civilian) employed by a law enforcement or criminal justice agency, or members of organizations with a direct working relationship with law enforcement.

Proof required: Agency email address or PDF copy of agency ID card showing agency name, member name, and title.

Benefits: May hold office and vote in MARCAN elections.

Associate

Cost: $40 first year; $35 renewal

Qualifications: Individuals associated with criminal justice, criminology, police science, or related academic programs, or professionals who work with or support the law enforcement community.

Proof required: No proof required.

Benefits: Cannot hold office or vote in MARCAN elections.

Student

Cost: $15 per year

Qualifications: Individuals currently enrolled in college or university coursework in criminal justice or a related field.

Proof required: Student email address or PDF copy of a current student ID showing institution name and student name.

Benefits: Cannot hold office or vote in MARCAN elections.

Intern / Volunteer

Cost: Free (MARCAN only); $15 for IACA dual membership

Qualifications: Interns or volunteers at law enforcement agencies who are sponsored by a full MARCAN member.

Proof required: Letter on agency letterhead confirming intern or volunteer status.

Benefits: Cannot hold office or vote in MARCAN elections.

MARCAN does not currently maintain or distribute a member directory, and does not proactively share member contact information.

Member information may be shared only in limited circumstances where a member specifically requests assistance identifying professional contacts within a particular agency, jurisdiction, or geographic area for legitimate crime or intelligence analysis–related collaboration. In these situations, MARCAN acts as a facilitator and shares only the minimum information necessary to make an initial professional connection.

MARCAN may evaluate additional member-to-member networking tools in the future, such as a voluntary member directory. Any such tool would be optional and subject to separate notice, clear opt-in consent, and defined usage limitations.

Optional Dual Membership
MARCAN is an affiliate of the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA). Applicants may optionally add IACA membership at the time of application.

If selected, the applicable IACA membership fee will be added and processed as part of this application. IACA membership is separate from MARCAN membership and subject to IACA policies and benefits.

MARCAN transmits new dual-member information to the IACA on a scheduled, periodic basis, not to exceed twice per month. Processing timelines may vary depending on when an application is approved within that cycle.

What Happens Next
Your application will be reviewed by MARCAN to confirm eligibility and any required documentation.

If membership dues apply, you will receive a Stripe invoice by email after your application has been reviewed and approved. Intern and volunteer memberships do not require payment.

Once payment is received (if applicable), your membership will be activated and you will receive a confirmation email.
