• Complexity Factors for Sewing Patterns

  • The factors contribute by varying degrees to the complexity of sewing a given pattern. Rate each factor from 1 to 10, representing the degree to which that factor contributes to sewing complexity. 10 means that the factor introduces high complexity, while 1 is the lowest.

For example, if we rate the factor "Number of Elements" as 1 and "Elastic Bands" as 2, it means that elastic bands contribute twice as much to the pattern's complexity as the number of elements.

  • Information and Example

Number of Elements (parts) in the sample image = 12
Perimeter = Sum of the perimeter for each individual element

    Thread white Overlocker x 3
    Thread black Overlocker x 1
    Thread black Coverstitch x 3

The pattern uses 2 different types of sewing machines – overlock and coverstitch
The pattern uses 2 types of thread – white and black

    Sample rating: Number of Elements = 3, Perimeter = 4, Threads = 8, Machines = 9
With this rating, we consider that the number of elements has the smallest contribution to complexity, while the number of machines has the largest. Threads contribute twice as much as perimeter.

  • IMPORTANT!!! Do not rate the specific pattern from the image above, but rather the general contribution to complexity of each described factor for any given pattern
