    Pearson Clinical UK

At Pearson Clinical UK, we create assessments that help teachers, psychologists, and other professionals understand how people learn and think. These tools are used across schools, healthcare, and support services.

What is happening in this project?

We’re updating tests that measure learning and thinking skills. These tests were first created in the US, and now we’re checking that they work well for people in the UK.

By asking lots of children, teenagers, and young adults to try the tasks, we can see how people typically perform. This helps us make sure the tests are fair, accurate, and useful for spotting when someone may need extra help or support.

    What will the project involve?

We’re inviting children, teenagers, and young adults aged 4–25 to take part in this project. Pearson Clinical UK will check the information you provide to confirm that you’re eligible.

If you are selected, we’ll get in touch to arrange your assessment session(s). Some people may have two sessions, with the second one usually within 4 weeks of the first. Session length depends on age:

    • 4–5 years: about 30–45 minutes
    • 6–7 years: about 80–100 minutes
    • 8–25 years: about 120–180 minutes

Sessions can take place at home or in a suitable public location. A trained professional with an enhanced security check will guide the tasks, which may include listening and speaking activities, reading and writing, problem-solving, and memory tasks.

We always prioritise comfort and wellbeing during the sessions. If anyone starts to feel tired, overwhelmed, or needs a break at any point, that’s absolutely fine — sessions can be paused or split into two shorter visits. We want the experience to feel relaxed, supportive, and at a pace that feels comfortable.

Please don’t worry about performance. We simply want to understand how people typically respond, not who gets the highest score.

If you’d like to get involved:

If you are happy, please click 'Next' below to complete the form.

The personal information we ask for is only used to make sure we include a wide range of people in this research. It will not be used for any other purpose.

We will not be able to provide you with any test results because the test is still under development.

A small number of participants may be invited for a third session. This may involve repeating one of the tests or completing a similar activity. If selected, we will contact you with full details before anything takes place.

    Data Privacy

All the information you provide will be treated in the strictest confidence. The results of your test will not be given to any third party. The results will be anonymised and only used by the research team to create score tables.

Information about the way we will use your personal information and keep it secure are set out here.

Taking part in this research project is entirely voluntary and you would be free to withdraw at any time without giving a reason, resulting in all information provided being destroyed. You can read our full data privacy policy here.

If you are not eligible for this project:

If this project isn’t suitable for your age group, you’re welcome to join our general interest list for future opportunities here.

    Thank you!
