Applicants should be committed to learning and passionate about developing a profitable farming enterprise. Strong commitment and effort is required and solid time management skills are essential. Applicants will need to feel comfortable in an educational setting as learning the ins and outs of business management is imperative to a successful farm business. Parts of the class may require intensive physical effort, a willingness to be outside in a variety of weather conditions and to function positively on a team and as part of a collaborative work environment. Applicants will need to arrange their own transportation to the classes and any offsite field sessions.
The Beginning Farmer Certificate program will be held Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm April, 29th 2026- September 9th at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County, 4487 Lake Ave. Lockport, NY.
Certificate in Market Gardening requires attendamce of 17 out of 20 classes and 60 hours of field work. Field work can be at CCE in our acre field, high tunnel, greenhouse or at a partner farm. We will do our best to connect participants with people/farmers to gain hands on experience in areas they are interested in.
The cost for this program is $500, please reach out for payment plans or scholarship oppurtunities.
