  • The Mission of National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc.

    The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. (NCBW) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization founded in 1981. NCBW advocates on behalf of Black women and girls, promoting sisterhood, striving for maximum community impact, and preparing our youth for a bright future. NCBW consists of thousands of progressive women of African descent who represent 63 chapters, in 28 states and the District of Columbia and whose commitment to gender equity and socioeconomic advancement drives meaningful change to benefit women of color. Its mission is to advocate on behalf of Women of Color & Girls through national, state, and local actions and strategic alliances that promote leadership development and gender equity in the areas of health, education, legislative and economic empowerment.

     

    NCBW provides support services that help youth achieve their educational goals and promotes the pursuit of positive lifelong goals through scholarships. For additional information, visit our website at: www.ncbwpwcc.org.

  • NCBW-PWCC will award the following scholarships:

    • 2026 Advocacy Scholarships
    The number of scholarships and the amount may vary based on chapter's monetary capabilities.

  • The Dr. Alice H. Howard Scholarship
    A 4-year recurring scholarship, named in recognition of Dr. Alice H. Howard, organizer of NCBW PWCC, will be awarded up to four years at the same institution. The recipient will be awarded $2000 the first year and $1000 for the second, third and fourth year. The recipient must submit an official sealed high school transcript verifying grade point average of 3.5 or above and must maintain a grade point average of 3.0, while enrolled in college. Each year the recipient must send an electronic copy of transcript to scholarshipncbwpwcc@gmail.com.

  • Eligibility - Scholarships are offered to:

    ● African American female high school seniors who resides in Prince William County, Manassas Park, Manassas City, Fredericksburg City Schools, Spotsylvania County Public Schools, and Stafford County who attend public, private or home school.

    ● Applicants must submit the following documents in an original format

    •  A completed application form
    • An official high school transcript verifying grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (3.5 GPA is required for the Dr. Alice H. Howard scholarship as described above)
    • One letter of reference from a school official, or a community, civic or religious leader. The reference letter should include:  

    - Name of the institution or organization for which applicant is involved

    - Name and position of person providing the reference 

    - Length of time the applicant has been involved with the organization

    - Explanation of the applicant's involvement in the organization's activities

    - Current and past roles and responsibilities of the applicant

    - Applicant's accomplishments in the organization

    • A well-written original typed essay, double-spaced, consisting of a minimum of 250 words. The essay will be evaluated and rated on organizational structure, development of topic, clarity, creativity, and use of the English language conventions (spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.)

  • Select one of the essay topics below:

    1. Overcoming Challenges in Education: What is a significant challenge you faced in youreducation, and how did you overcome it? What lessons did it teach you about perseverance and problem-solving?

    2. Discuss an issue of personal, local, state, or national concern and its importance to you.

    3. Describe an activity that you have participated in that demonstrates yourleadership potential.

    Note: It is expected that the essay will be an original essay in the applicant’s own words.

    Selection Process - Scholarship Selections are based on the following:

    •  Merit – based on academic accomplishments, GPA, essay, personal interview, reference, and schooland community involvement
      Need – based on a Statement of Financial Need with a minimum of 250 words for consideration for the need-based scholarship to help bridge the financial gap and fulfill educational goals

    Application packets must be submitted on or before 11:59 P.M on February 27, 2026
