Why do you want an Anatolian Shepherd Dog?

What do you plan on doing with your dog? Choose all that apply.

Have you ever owned an LGD before?

If "no", have you thoroughly researched LGDs in general and Anatolians specifically?

Please describe behavioral issues common to LGDs, and how you plan to address them.

What other pets do you (or will you) have? Do you frequently acquire new pets?

Are you aware of resource guarding, "littermate syndrome", and same-sex aggression behavior in LGDs? If you have other dogs, what steps will you take to prevent these behaviors from becoming a problem?

How will you socialize your puppy to other people and animals?

If you intend to take your LGD to behavior classes or to a trainer, are you aware that LGDs do not respond well to many common training techniques and are best off being trained by a trainer or program specifically designed for LGDs? Trainers who are not familiar with LGDs may exacerbate or cause serious behavior issues.

Will your puppy be raised inside, outside in a barn / with livestock, outside in a kennel, or a combination? Please note that many breeders now recommend that LGDs be raised "inside and underfoot", and later transitioned to living outside with livestock. We believe both methods are acceptable with proper care and training. Choose all that apply and please explain if necessary.

Is anyone home during the day? If not, how long will the puppy be left alone on average, and where will the puppy be when alone?

How do you intend to bond with your Anatolian, especially if they are raised outside? Bonding with their owner is very important!

Are you aware that most LGDs, given the opportunity, will "wander"? Individual dogs will vary, but most LGDs will create a wider and wider patrol perimeter of a mile or more as they mature. This behavior is instinctive and natural. Describe your property and fencing or alternate plans for containment.

What livestock do you (or will you) have? Do (or will you) free-range poultry? While individual dogs vary, are you aware that LGDs are not considered mature enough to be left with poultry or livestock unsupervised until at least two years of age?

Are you aware that Anatolians should not be spayed or neutered before a minimum of two years old? What steps will you take to prevent unwanted litters?

What type of diet do you intend to feed your Anatolian?

Bear Mountain Farm is committed to holistically raised animals and natural rearing. We do not vaccinate, use flea and tick prevention, or heartworm prevention unless requested by a buyer (with a deposit). We do deworm, either herbally or with fenbendazole.
