LEASH HANDLING
Effective leash handling in scent work means giving your dog freedom to follow odor by managing slack, keeping the leash out of their way (using a 10-15 ft line), and avoiding pulling or crowding to prevent distracting them or influencing their search, letting their nose lead while you support their independent work. Your goal is to be a quiet, supportive partner, feeding the leash out as the dog moves away and reeling it in smoothly as they approach scent, all while staying back to let them work.
