    Dear Applicant:

    The Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is committed to helping young people succeed academically. This commitment includes ensuring that students have access to the financial resources needed to pursue a college education.

    Scholarships are available to graduating African American high school seniors residing in the Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter service area, which includes Middletown, Odessa, Townsend, Clayton, Port Penn, St. Georges and Delaware City.

    Completed applications must be received by March 13, 2026 at 11:59pm.

  • SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY

    To be eligible to receive a scholarship award, applicants must meet the criteria listed below for the scholarship:

    • Be an African American high school senior graduating by June 2026.
    • Reside in the Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter service area
      •  Middletown
      • Odessa
      • Townsend
      • Clayton
      • Port Penn
      • St. Georges
      • Delaware City
    • Applicants must have a 3.0 unweighted grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.
    • Complete and submit a completed application packet (see checklist below).

    Please Note: Dependents of current members of the Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter are not eligible to apply.

  • SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION CHECKLIST

    Use the checklist below to ensure your application packet is complete and eligible for consideration. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

    A complete application includes:

    • Submitted and signed application form (by student applicant)
    • Signed Media Release Statement
      • Must be signed by a parent/guardian of the applicant
    • An official high school transcript (sent from high school counselor)
    • An official college/university acceptance letter that stipulates your acceptance into a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics degree program
    • Essay 1: Topic - Your community service, leadership activities, and your college and career aspirations (2 page maximum) 
    • Essay 2: Topic - Your interest in STEM, which must include a response to the following questions (2 page maximum): 
      • Why are you choosing to major in STEM and what do you plan to accomplish in the field of STEM?
      • How do you plan to utilize your STEM education to give back to the community?
      • Also share any background that you have in STEM (i.e. coursework, activities, clubs and/or organizations, etc.).
    • Two (2) letters of recommendation on professional letterhead from any of the following individuals:
      • Activity/Club Advisor
      • Coach
      • Community Leader
      • Employer
      • High School Counselor, Teacher or Administrator
      • Minister
      • Volunteer Coordinator

    Letters of recommendation from family members will not be accepted. All letters of recommendation must include the following information:

    • The length of time the recommender has known the applicant
    • A description of the applicant’s personal qualities
    • A description of qualities that demonstrate the applicant’s ability to persevere and succeed in college

    Please provide the name and contact information of your parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
  • III. POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS

    List the names of the colleges or universities to which you have applied or been admitted, including the city and state of each institution.
  • IV. HONORS AND AWARDS

    List any academic, leadership, athletic or community awards you have received. Include the name of the award, the organization or institution that granted it, the reason it was awarded and the year you received it.
  • V. EXTRA-CURRICULAR/COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES

    List clubs, organizations, sports, or other activities in which you have participated. Include your role, level of involvement and any leadership positions held from 9th - 12th grade.
  • VI. WORK/VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

    Describe your work experiences. Include the organization or employer name, your role or position, dates of involvement or hours of service and a brief summary of your responsibilities or accomplishments.
  • VII. Other

    Include any additional information you would like the scholarship committee to consider. This could include unique experiences, personal achievements, challenges overcome, or anything else that highlights your qualifications.

    I hereby give the Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated (the “Chapter”) the right and permission to capture, publish, and use photographic images, video recordings, audio recordings, and any other media content of myself and/or my minor child(ren) for the specific purpose of promoting and publicizing the Chapter’s programs and activities. This includes, but is not limited to, use on the Chapter’s website, social media platforms, and in print or digital publications. In giving my consent, I hereby release and hold harmless the Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter of DeltaSigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated (the “Chapter”) from all responsibility and/or liability.
