THE SPRAYERS SHED (TSS) – HEALTH & SAFETY & PPE REQUIREMENTS
1. GENERAL SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
You must be a competent person and familiar with spray painting, or under direct supervision.
You must read and follow:
- The equipment operating manual
- The paint/coating manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
- Any site-specific safety rules
You are responsible for:
- Adequate ventilation and control of fumes and overspray
- Safe storage, handling and clean-up of paints and solvents
- Keeping the area clear of children, bystanders and untrained persons
If at any time you believe the work cannot be carried out safely, stop work immediately and contact TSS on 0414 149 665.
2. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) – MANDATORY
Minimum PPE requirements:
- Eye/face protection – AS/NZS 1337 safety glasses or goggles
- Respiratory protection – AS/NZS 1716/1715 approved respirator
- Chemical-resistant gloves (e.g., nitrile)
- Long sleeves/pants or spray suit
- Closed-in, slip-resistant footwear (AS 2210)
- Hearing protection – AS/NZS 1270 where noise is high
3. PRE-USE CHECKS
Before each use:
- Inspect hoses, gun, fittings, filters and power leads
- Confirm guards and tip guards are fitted
- Ensure work area is ventilated and free of ignition sources
- Have a fire extinguisher where flammables are used
- If equipment seems unfit, stop and contact TSS
4. SAFE USE OF AIRLESS SPRAY EQUIPMENT
- Treat spray gun like a loaded firearm
- Never point at yourself or others
- Never place fingers near spray tip or leaks
- Always use tip guard and trigger lock when not spraying
- Follow pressure-relief procedure before servicing or cleaning
- Ensure electrical equipment is grounded and safe
- Do not operate when tired or impaired
5. WORK AREA, VENTILATION & HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS
- Ensure effective ventilation
- Follow SDS for handling, exposure limits, first aid and spills
- Store chemicals away from heat sources
- Keep children and bystanders away
6. CLEANING, MAINTENANCE & RETURN OF EQUIPMENT
- Follow manufacturer flushing instructions
- Perform full pressure relief before disconnecting parts
- Dispose of waste legally
- Return equipment clean and report faults to TSS
7. USER DECLARATION
I understand and agree to:
- Follow all instructions from TSS and manufacturers
- Wear mandatory PPE at all times
- Operate equipment safely under QLD/Australian WHS rules
- Stop and contact TSS if equipment is unsafe
