1.4 Safety briefing before starting (≤ 60 seconds)
*
This field is required.
For example:
“We’re going to learn using slow, short, and fully controllable runs. People below you go first; before you start or cross, always look uphill. Only stop where others can see you from above. When I say ‘slow’ or ‘stop’, you do it right away. If you feel cold, hot, hungry, tired, scared, or in pain, tell me anytime.”

2.1 Control first
*
This field is required.

• The child must never be allowed to ski or ride so fast that the instructor cannot comfortably keep up and intervene.

2.2 Formation and visibility (1:1 rule)
*
This field is required.
KM lessons are 1:1. The instructor keeps full attention on the child and stays within immediate voice range at all times.
Position: slightly uphill or just behind the child’s shoulder so you can step in to control speed if needed.
efore any change (turn type, line, speed), follow the sequence: 1. Give a clear cue, 2. Demonstrate, 3. Then let the child execute.
Before merging or traversing, always look uphill and yield.
Three rules for stopping: You can be seen from above, You are not blocking the trail, You leave the fall line quickly.
Staying focused on the lesson: The instructor must not stop to chat with friends or leave the child unattended for socializing.
Handling outside distractions: If someone who is not in the lesson comes over to talk or take photos, the instructor should politely say something like: “We’re in the middle of a lesson—let’s catch up after, okay?” Then immediately bring the child back into a safe, visible formation.

2.3 Chairlift use
*
This field is required.
Only use lifts when the child:understands the basic steps for loading, riding, and unloading, andis emotionally stable enough for it.
When in doubt, ask lift staff or another trusted adult for help.
At both load and unload points, repeat key cues and hand signals in advance. If the child hesitates or seems truly afraid, abandon that attempt and switch to a safer alternative instead of forcing it.

2.3.1
Load Abort Protocol (if a child starts to slip off while loading)
*
This field is required.
If the child is sliding off while still on the loading platform / before the chair has fully lifted off:Prioritize guiding or allowing the child to drop safely back to the ground on the platform,Immediately signal or call the lift operator (and request a stop/slow if needed).
Do not try to physically haul the child upwards back onto the chair by hand. This creates a serious risk of a second fall or crush injury.
When safe, the instructor may also step off to the side at the platform and accompany the child, switching to an alternative plan (for example, walking around or taking the next chair). Never force the ride to continue just to “make it work.”

2.4 Monitoring energy and emotions
*
This field is required.
Every ~15 minutes, ask brief check-in questions: “Cold? Hot? Hungry? Tired? Scared? Does anything hurt?”
Adjust terrain and intensity based on answers: lower the pitch, shorten runs, or take a break.
If you see signs like freezing up, shivering, zoning out, or difficulty focusing, shift immediately into warming up, rest, and hydration before continuing.

Handover, and on/off-hill safety
*
This field is required.
Pickup code handoverBefore the lesson ends, the instructor must open the TXSNOW KM Pickup Code page (link in the lesson group announcement) on their phone. The child may only be officially handed back once the parent/guardian has entered the correct pickup code in person at the meeting point.
Physical handover – never leave the child unattendedThe instructor must physically hand the child over to the parent/guardian.Until the parent/guardian is on site, the instructor may not leave the child or pass them to a third party. If the parent is late, the instructor still may not leave. They must inform TXSNOW so that an extended handover and safety supervision process can be activated.
Minor incidents and transparency - If a child has a normal sports fall, small scrape, or other mild issue, the instructor should inform the parent as soon as reasonably possible in the lesson group chat:brief factual description + what has already been done (ice, bandage, rest, etc.).This avoids a situation where the parent first discovers a bruise after the fact and then asks “What happened?” Any case that might require medical evaluation or looks like more than a minor bump still follows the Incident SOP (with Ski Patrol and full reporting).

The following are strictly prohibited and treated as red-line safety violations:
*
This field is required.
Taking a child onto steeper terrain or into crowded areas before they can reliably stop and respond immediately to safety cues.
Pushing speed, terrain, or loosened regroup rules in order to “make progress” or capture dramatic video content.
Teaching under the influence of alcohol or drugs, ignoring closures or warnings, or entering closed terrain.
Leaving a child after a fall or collision, or failing to report an incident according to the Incident Reporting SOP.
In the loading area / before the chair has fully lifted off, trying to grab and pull a child upward back onto the chair by hand instead of prioritizing a safe “back to the ground” outcome and signaling the operator.
Failing to use or lower the safety bar where required by resort policy, or ignoring instructions from lift staff.
Handing a child over or allowing them to leave before the parent has entered the correct Pickup Code and the on-site identity check is complete.
Leaving the child when the parent has not yet arrived, or handing the child to an unauthorized third party.
Failing to inform the parent of minor injuries or incidents during the lesson, creating unnecessary confusion or trust issues later.
