Dear Members of the Spokane City Council,
I am writing as a concerned citizen of Spokane to express my strong support for prohibiting the sale and distribution of kratom within our city.
Kratom is an unregulated substance with a growing history of abuse, particularly among youth and vulnerable populations. Research and reports have documented serious health risks associated with kratom use, including:
Psychological effects: anxiety, agitation, depression, and in some cases, psychosis
Physical effects: nausea, vomiting, respiratory issues, withdrawal symptoms, and increased risk of overdose
Addiction potential: users can develop dependence, leading to harmful social, emotional, and financial consequences
Given these dangers, I strongly urge the Spokane City Council to take action to protect the health and safety of our community by prohibiting the sale and distribution of kratom within city limits.
Kratom overdose and addiction do not discriminate by age. Youth, young adults, and older adults alike are at risk, making this a serious public health concern for everyone in our community.
Thank you for your attention to this important issue. I respectfully request that the Council vote in favor of the proposed prohibition.
