  • Activity Leader Position

  • Activity Leader (must be 18 years or older to apply) 

    Must be present for Orientation Day (the Saturday before the start of camp week)

    Priority will be given to those who can attend both sessions.

    **New position this year, Social Media Lead. You will not lead a direct activity. You will be in charge of getting content, posting on Facebook and Instagram daily, and orgnaizing the content into our CBH Google Drive.**

    Duties:  
    - Plan one or more activities for campers to engage with during a 75-minute session before the start of camp (yearly rotating activities include art, STEM, cooking, and more!)
    - Prepare for and set up the activities during the week 
    - Lead and engage in the activities with a small group of campers twice per day  
    - Delegate tasks to Unit Leaders during the activity to ensure all campers are supported and engaged 
    - Lead clean-up at the end of each session and support your assigned Unit Leaders with transitioning campers  
    - Help set up and run daily camp-wide activities (pool time, boating, archery, and water park, evening entertainment) by supporting campers during the activity and engaging in the activity
    - Help set up and run nightly events (Color Wars, the Carnival, the Talent Show, and the Dance) by supporting campers during the event and engaging in the activity 
    - Support your designated Unit Leaders by helping prepare campers for the day, for bedtime, and transition to and from rest time  
    - Help with Sunday arrival day(s) by directing traffic, checking in campers, or cabin set-up
    - Serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner to campers and staff daily 
    - Oversee and support with cabin clean up at the end of the week(s)

    I agree to allow photography of the applicant to be used by the Camp Big Heart and/or Camp John Hope for any publicity and/or promotional and/or educational purposes including leaflets, flyers, brochures, television, newspapers, magazines, advertisements, audio-visuals, videos, etc. This furthers the aims of Civitan’s Camp Big Heart to provide a summer recreational camp for our campers who are mentally challenged at a low cost to the participants, the majority of costs of said camp being underwritten by the Camp Big Heart Civitan Club.

  • Transportation I understand that the applicant’s transportation to and from Camp Big Heart is my responsibility. The applicant and/or legal guardian will be responsible for transportation, as well as room and board arrangements for the Friday evenings after each session, as no one will be allowed to remain on campus. CAMP BIG HEART IS RELEASED FROM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS DURING THE ABOVE MENTIONED TIME PERIOD.Preplanning SessionsI understand that all staff and volunteers are required to attend the staff orientation for each session they will be working. These will take place on Saturday afternoon on the first day of each session. We will specify what time you should be there well in advance of camp by e-mail. Sleeping Accommodations I understand that all staff and volunteers will be required to sleep on the top bunks of bunk beds. This leaves the bottom bunks for campers to use. I accept that accommodations will not be made for any bed preferences.
