    2027 Member-in-Residence Program

    The ARTSPLACE Member-in-Residence Program exists to give artist members access to studio space and an exhibition opportunity for works explored and created during the residency.

    This program is available for any arts discipline.

    Previous members-in-residence include Bonnie Baker (visual artist/printmaker), Lauren Soloy (children's book author/illustrator), Liz Lore (visual artist), Deirdre Dwyer (writer), Ken Flett (visual artist/puppetry), Coleen Davidson (silk painting, embroidery), Karen Phillps Curran (photography/print), Basma Kavanagh (poet/printmaker).

    ALSO INCLUDED:

    In addition to studio access (upstairs), the artist will have access to the Library Gallery (first floor) to work or display works-in-progress.

    The artist then has a week (Feb. 6-13, 2027) in the Library Gallery to exhibit works or works-in-progress produced during their residency.

    (The artist may choose to use only the Library Gallery space on the accessible first floor for all of their residence/studio/exhibition activities.)

  • CONDITIONS:

    We are looking for:

    • Feasibility and originality
    • The impact that the residency will have on the artist

    The residency is self-funded. 

    Accommodations are not included, but assistance sourcing affordable accommodations is available upon request.

    The artist will have access to an individual studio-workshop space, technical equipment, and admin support.

    There are organisations within the immediate area that can assist with any research that may be of interest - Annapolis Heritage Society, King's Theatre, Historic Gardens, etc.

    There is an expectation of some form of public engagement during the residency (talk/presentation, workshop, open studio time, for example).

    ELIGIBILITY:

    • Open to current members of ARCAC at the time of application and in the project year (The Annapolis Region Community Arts Council).

    OPEN TO ALL DISCIPLINES, FOR EXAMPLE:

    • visual arts (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.)
    • literature (including poetry, drama, story, etc.)
    • graphic arts (painting, drawing, design, etc.)
    • decorative arts (enamelwork, furniture design, mosaic, etc.)
    • performing arts (theatre, dance, music)
    • music (as composition)
    • architecture (including interior design)

    LEVEL:

    • From emerging to professional

    GUIDELINES:

    • Only one proposal per applicant.
    • Concise proposal and artist statement.
    • Supporting material can include images, writing, audio/video samples. Please, edit appropriately for viewing with your name and the corresponding number on the supplied file list (e.g. 01_SmithJ). 
    • Copies of catalogue texts or reviews, as well as links to interviews or artist talks (only if relevant).
  • OTHER INFORMATION:

    ARTSPLACE has one accessible parking space. The Main Gallery is wheelchair accessible. There is one gender neautral, accessible washroom on the main floor. The residency studio space is only accessible via stairway, the library gallery is an accessible option for a studio space.

    BACKGROUND:

    ARTSPLACE is a contemporary gallery and arts centre that is operated by the Annapolis Region Community Arts Council (ARCAC). 

    ARCAC was founded as a Society in 1982 by a group of artists who wanted to share their work and ideas with each other and their community. ARCAC is a registered charitable organization. In 1996, ARCAC acquired its own building, known as ARTSPLACE. In 1998, ARTSPLACE was awarded Canada Council funding to present contemporary, visual arts as an artist-run centre. ARTSPLACE has three galleries, residency and pop-up studio/gallery and space for workshops and performances.
