About Greg:
Gregory Pierce is a studio artist and Chair of the Fine Art Department at Heritage University in Toppenish, WA. In his work, he explores connections to specific landscapes embedded with cultural remnants that provide opportunity for contemplation. He does this by condensing personal viewpoints, memories, and traces of human detritus into layered abstract forms. These forms are created through a distinctive process that fuses naturally sourced rock material with clay, glaze, and other materials.

About The Workshop:
On the first day of the workshop, Greg will provide an overview of finding local rock and mineral resources, how to process these safely and ethically, understanding basic rock types and their influences on slips and glazes. He will also have students prepare slabs for day two, where the students will choose soft or hard slab shaping to make an object of their choosing (vase, tea tray, planter, cup, etc.). Students then get to choose between three glaze color options, and the works will be dried and fired in-house to be picked up at a later date.

This class is recommended for intermediate/advanced students with some clay experience.
Suggested for students ages 15 and up. Cost of class includes all instruction and materials.

Students, visitors and staff are expected to maintain a standard of behavior conductive to the community spirit of learning and working at the Umpqua Valley Arts (UVA). Any individual in violation of these standards will not be allowed to continue classes and any remaining tuition will be forfeited. Payment and Refund Policy: Full payment at time of registration is required. Up until two weeks prior to the start of the event, you will receive a full refund (minus a $10 service charge) should you need to cancel your registration. However, cancellations made after this two-week time frame are nonrefundable. Should UVA cancel the event, all participants will receive a full refund or credit toward future classes.
