About Alpine Artisans: The mission of Alpine Artisans is to promote and preserve the arts in the Seeley, Swan, and Blackfoot Valleys of Western Montana. We accomplish this through supporting artists, arts education, outreach, and information gathering and sharing.
Grant purpose: Youth Grants are offered to help young people explore their interests in music, theater arts, fine arts, graphic arts, dance, creative writing, film making, and photography through a defined curriculum or plan of study.
Criteria: The grant can be used for individual classes with a private teacher, camps, or workshops. The instructor must be recognized as proficient in the field of arts being taught. Self-instruction is not an acceptable mode of instruction. Virtual lessons through Zoom or Teams is acceptable if the instructor is qualified. For established camps or organizations (examples include the University of Montana Band Camp or Rocky Mountain Ballet Theatre), the scholarship committee expects the instructors have been vetted by the entity's administration prior to being hired.
Outcome: The recipient of the Youth Grant will within one year of receiving the grant funding demonstrate what they learned. Examples of what this might look like: participating in a public concert or performance (singing, playing an instrument, dancing), having artwork in a local gallery, or creating a film or video. Keep this in mind as you pursue your course of study.
Eligibility: Students living in the Blackfoot and Seeley-Swan Valleys and who are attending Kindergarten through 12th grade classes in local schools or who are home-schooled are eligible to apply. An individual may receive a Youth Grant a maximum of three times over the course of several years.
How to apply: Complete this online form and click the Submit button at the very end of the process. A letter of reference is required in addition to the application. A family member cannot provide the reference. Preferred method is for the person you have selected for your reference to use this online reference form.
Timeframe: Grant applications are received on a rolling basis, meaning that any time during the school year and summer, students may apply for a Youth Grant. Once both the application and reference have been received, members of the Scholarship Committee will review the information as soon as possible. There may be follow-up questions from the committee. Typically, you will receive a response from the chair of the committee within 2-3 weeks. Be sure to take this timeframe into consideration and plan ahead.
Who receives the money? Alpine Artisans will send a check or other form of payment to the teacher or organization offering the class, workshop, camp, or similar arts-based learning experience. Funds are not provided directly to the student or parent.
