Before You Begin
- You are fully alert and able to remain awake throughout the task.
- You can breathe comfortably without severe respiratory issues (for example, no tracheostomy tube dependence).
- You can sit upright at approximately a 30° angle or higher (your normal eating position).
If any of the above are not true, or if you are unsure, skip this step for your safety.
How the Challenge Works
- Prepare 3 ounces (90 ml or 18 teaspoons) of water in a cup.
- When you are ready, drink the entire amount continuously, without stopping.
- Pay attention to how your body responds during the task.
Now, please do the challenge.
You passed if you drank the full 3 oz
- Without stopping
- You drank the full 3 ounces
You did not pass if you
- Needed to stop drinking for any reason (breath, discomfort, pace)
- You had to break the water into smaller sips
- You coughed, choked, gagged, throat-cleared, or felt like you were choking
- Sensed water "went down the wrong way."
