The Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. - Pi Gamma Sigma Alumni Chapter awards academic scholarships to high school seniors in Chester and Montgomery Counties who plan to attend a four-year College/University on a full-time basis in the Fall of 2026.
Scholarship Descriptions:
• Robert P. Peters Scholarship Award: The Robert P. Peters Memorial Scholarship is awarded by the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Pi Gamma Sigma Alumni Chapter. The scholarship is worth $10,000.00, initially given as a $2,500.00 award and renewable up to three additional times each year. This merit-based scholarship focuses on academic excellence and community service. It will be awarded to a male college-bound student who resides or attends high school in Montgomery or Chester Counties in Pennsylvania. Only one scholarship will be granted.
• Pi Gamma Sigma Scholarship Award: The scholarship is valued at $1,000.00 (totaling $3,000). This merit-based scholarship emphasizes academic excellence and community service. It will be awarded to a male college-bound student who resides in and attends high school in Montgomery or Chester Counties in Pennsylvania. Only one scholarship will be awarded.
Eligibility Factors and Limitations:
• Applicant must be a graduating male senior who will be attending a four-year accredited College/University at the beginning of Fall 2026. • Applicant will be graduating high school in 2026 with a minimum 3.0 GPA, based on a 4.0 scale (please provide the most recent report card or official transcript as evidence of current GPA). • Applicant must be a resident of or attend High School in Chester or Montgomery County.
Method of Selecting Awardee:
The Scholarship Committee will review applications, and decisions will be based on Academic Merit and Written Essay. Scholarship winners and their high schools will be notified by email.
Award Payments:
Payments will be made to the recipient at the PGS Community Impact Scholarship & Awards Luncheon, which will take place at the Flourtown Country Club on Saturday, May 23rd. Scholarship recipients must be present to receive their award; otherwise, the scholarship will be forfeited. Criteria:
A completed application packet will include the following:
1. Official high school transcript
2. Completed application form (if under 18 years old, must include the signature of a parent or guardian)
3. Formal letter of recommendation from either a teacher/counselor/administrator/community leader(ONLY IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR THE BOB P. PETERS SCHOLARSHIP.
4. Applicant’s photo
5. Applicant’s social media handles
6. Essay questions:
o Why are you interested in furthering your education?
o How will you help your community upon graduating from college?
7. The essay should be a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 1,000 words. The written essay must be typed in 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, with 1" margins. The essay will be judged on the following criteria:
• Clarity
• Content
• Critical Thinking
• Depth
• Grammar
• Organization
• Originality
• Spelling
• Punctuation
The scholarship application deadline is 11:59 pm on March 31, 2026.
