  • Camp Art Academy at the AAC is an esteemed six-week, summertime educational experience for rising first through sixth graders. Each week has a unique theme and students can attend one week, all six, or any number in between. At the end of each week, students celebrate their artwork with a gallery opening for friends and family!

    Please note, an Authorization Form will be completed at the end of this Registration Form. As the summer approaches, another important form collecting emergency contacts, accommodations, IDs, etc. will be sent out and due before Camp Art Academy begins.

                            Week 1 | Characters: Drawing from Life and Imagination (June 1-5)
                            WEEK 1 | Camp Art Academy (5-8-Year-Old Classroom)9 AM-3 PM: Drawing is the foundation of visual storytelling, and this week invites young artists to create characters inspired by both real life and imagination. Students will explore line, gesture, and expression as they draw people, animals, and invented figures, learning how marks and movement can communicate emotion and personality. Campers will experiment with a variety of drawing tools and surfaces while practicing observation and imaginative thinking. Projects will be inspired by artists such as Paul Klee and Jean Dubuffet, alongside AAC alumni Charley Harper and Richard F. Outcault, encouraging playful, expressive approaches to character-making.

                            Week 2 | Atmosphere: Space, Mood, and Environment (June 8-12)
                            WEEK 2 | Camp Art Academy (5-8-Year-Old Classroom)9 AM-3 PM: How does a space make you feel? This week explores how artists shape environments to create mood and atmosphere. Students will collaborate on installation-based projects, experimenting with scale, balance, light, and material placement as they transform shared spaces. Campers will practice teamwork and creative problem-solving while learning how viewers experience art physically and emotionally. Projects will draw inspiration from artists such as Do Ho Suh and Ann Hamilton, alongside AAC alumni Robert Ladislas Derr and Tony Tasset, highlighting the power of space, environment, and collaboration.

                            Week 3 | Image: Text, Textile, and Photography (June 15-18)
                            WEEK 3 | Camp Art Academy (5-8-Year-Old Classroom)9 AM-3 PM: This week focuses on storytelling through images that can be seen, read, and touched. Students will combine creative writing with textile processes and introductory photography to create layered works that communicate ideas and stories. Campers will explore fabric, texture, simple photographic techniques, and short written narratives while learning how words and images work together. Inspiration will come from artists such as Faith Ringgold and Lorna Simpson, alongside AAC alumni Petah Coyne and Mary Given Sheerer, encouraging students to think about memory, storytelling, and personal expression.

                            Week 4 | Style: Expression and Identity (July 6-10)
                            WEEK 4 | Camp Art Academy (5-8-Year-Old Classroom)9 AM-3 PM: This week introduces painting as a powerful tool for self-expression and personal style. Students will explore color, brushwork, and composition while experimenting with a range of painting approaches, from expressive abstraction to representational imagery. Campers will learn that there are many ways to paint and many ways to express ideas and emotions. Projects will be inspired by artists such as Howardena Pindell and Jacob Lawrence, alongside AAC alumni Sydney Butchkess and Mary Lee Tate, emphasizing confidence, individuality, and creative voice.

                            Week 5 | Representation: Image and Form (July 13-17)
                            WEEK 5 | Camp Art Academy (5-8-Year-Old Classroom)9 AM-3 PM: This week invites students to explore how ideas take shape in three dimensions. Campers will experiment with form, proportion, and structure while creating sculptural works inspired by people, animals, and imagined subjects. Using a variety of safe tools and materials, students will practice building, assembling, and problem-solving through hands-on exploration. Projects will be informed by artists such as Barbara Hepworth and Augusta Savage, alongside AAC alumni Louise Abel, Charles Henry Niehaus, and Tom Wesselmann, encouraging curiosity, experimentation, and spatial thinking.

                            WEEK 6 | Camp Art Academy (5-8-Year-Old Classroom)9 AM-3 PM: Printmaking and storytelling come together this week as students explore how images and words can be shared and repeated to tell stories. Campers will experiment with printmaking techniques while pairing images with creative writing to build visual narratives. Students will learn how sequencing, contrast, and repetition help communicate meaning. Projects will be inspired by artists such as Elizabeth Catlett and José Guadalupe Posada, alongside AAC alumni Kreigh Collins, Edna Boies Hopkins, and Lee Fritz Randolph, highlighting print as an accessible and powerful narrative tool.

                            2026 Courses and Programs
                          • a. Use all the materials, tools, and equipment as instructed by Art Academy staff.
                            b. Participate in all the program’s planned activities.
                            c. Appear in visual records for educational and/or publicity purposes, only recorded by the AAC Marketing team.

                            II. I hereby authorize the staff of the Art Academy of Cincinnati to provide routine healthcare if applicable (examples: bandaid and icepack application) and/or to take actions they feel necessary in the case of an emergency involving my student, including but not limited to obtaining professional medical assistance/ treatment.

                            III. I hereby agree to keep my student home if they are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, strep throat, influenza, chickenpox, the common cold, and all other infectious diseases. I also agree to arrange for my student to promptly leave programming if they display any symptoms of a potential contagious illness during the course/programming session or EXPRESS to an Art Academy staff member that they are experiencing potentially contagious symptoms.

                            IIV. I herby agree to the terms of the Welcome Packet, including the Student Code of Conduct regarding my student’s behavior during and participation in AAC programs, which was included on the website (and should be reviewed below).

                          • V. I hereby understand and agree to terms outlined in the Participation Waiver below.

                          • PARTICIPATION WAIVER

                            The undersigned parent or legal guardian (“Representative”) executes this waiver (“Agreement”) on behalf of Representative, the minor participant identified below (“Participant”), and all heirs, executors, estates, and trustees thereof. This Agreement applies to Participant’s participation in all activities, programs, and events (collectively, “Activities”) sponsored, hosted, or otherwise provided by or on behalf of ART ACADEMY OF CINCINNATI, an Ohio nonprofit corporation (including its directors, officers, members, agents, and employees, collectively, the “AAC”), including, without limitation, Camp Art Academy, Teen Academy, Community Courses, and Portfolio Preparation. 

                            Representative consents to Participant’s participation in the Activities. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

                            Participant and Representative assume all risks associated with the Activities. As with any activity, the Activities may present a risk of property damage, serious bodily injury, and/or death. 

                            Participant and Representative hereby waive and release the AAC from all claims, demands, damages, and causes of action of any nature which either has or may have in connection with the Activities.

                            Without limiting the foregoing, the AAC shall not be liable to Participant or Representative for: (a) any indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive, special, or speculative damages in connection with the Activities, regardless of whether the AAC has been advised of the possibility thereof; and (b) any liability to Representative or Participant in excess of $500, regardless of the cause of action.

                            The Activities does not impose any obligation on the AAC to provide transportation. Representative is solely responsible for arranging transportation. Without limiting the foregoing waivers, AAC is not liable for any, and Participant and Representative hereby waive all claims related to, any and all property damage, bodily injury, and death incurred by Participant in relation to the transportation to or from the Activities, lack or delay of transportation, or injuries caused by third parties during such transportation.

                            Representative shall ensure Participant is picked up by Participant’s parent, legal guardian, or other authorized adult promptly after the Activities. At all times during the Activities, Representative must be available at the phone number set forth below. This is the number that AAC will use to contact Representative regarding Participant for all matters, including emergencies. AAC shall be entitled to release Participant with any individual purporting to be an adult authorized to pick up and transport the Participant, with whom Participant expresses familiarity, in the sole and absolute discretion of AAC, and AAC shall have no liability for doing so nor any obligation to verify the statements made by or identity or relationship of the same.

                            Representative and Participant shall comply with all rules and regulations of the AAC, as may be modified by the AAC at any time, as well as all directions of AAC employees and representatives at all times. Participant’s failure to so comply may result in termination of Participant’s Activities and Representative agrees to promptly pick up the Participant in such case.

                            In the event of an emergency, as determined by AAC, you authorize AAC to dial 911 and perform any actions or procedures any AAC representative believes in good faith to be necessary or advisable for the best interests of the Participant’s health. Representative and Participant release AAC from any claims related to such actions. The foregoing authorization shall not obligate AAC or any representative thereof to take any such actions.

                            This Agreement and all claims related to this Agreement and the Activities shall be governed by Ohio law and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts of Hamilton County, Ohio; provided, however, Representative and Participant hereby agree to first submit all disputes related to this Agreement and/or the Activities to non-binding mediation administered by the Cincinnati Bar Association, with such mediation to be held in Cincinnati, Ohio. The cost of such mediation shall be shared equally by Representative and AAC, and each party shall pay its own attorney fees in connection therewith. In the event of any subsequent court action, Representative and Participant shall pay all of AAC’s court costs and reasonable attorney fees in connection with any such dispute. Representative and Participant hereby irrevocably waive the right to a trial by jury in any such dispute. If any provision of this Agreement is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be unenforceable, the remainder of this Agreement shall remain in full force and effect and such unenforceable provision shall be interpreted to the maximum legal extent to reduce AAC’s liability.
