| Between the Recipes (Vanessa) |
We're here because we believe the real story lives in the notes. This monthly gathering prompts us to analyze the text before we taste it. Community members will also share their own personal (his)stories in a similar fashion to the (his)tories in the texts. |
| Planted (KG) |
This monthly gathering invites community members to reconnect with ancestral knowledge through the lens of plants, stories, and shared traditions. Each month, we center a plant from the African Diaspora—exploring its culinary, medicinal, and cultural significance—and pair it with a book (fiction or nonfiction) that highlights Black farming, herbalism, or land-based storytelling. Come ready to read and grow. |
| Reading Black Lit (KG) |
Reading Black Lit connected community members with radical Black books. Each month we uplift one book written by a Black author. We believe building community through political education is crucial for our liberation. We also believe black people everywhere should have access to unlimited educational materials. |
| The Healing Table |
The Healing Table is a culturally-rooted wellness initiative from Red Rice Books, created in collaboration with a registered dietitian, Demetria Cox-Thomas, also know as Dee Veggie Chef. This series explores the intersection of food, heritage, and health through conversations, workshops, and shared meals that honor the traditions of the African Diaspora. By blending storytelling with practical nutrition guidance, The Healing Table reclaims nourishment as both cultural practice and everyday care. |
