Excellent source of protein, iron, and other micronutrients, but meats' saturated fat and other substances promote cardiovascular disease, premature death, and probably cancer, so enjoy only occasionally. The production of red meat has the highest environmental impact of any food because of the use of fertilizer, growing of feed grains, and cows' manure and emission of methane. Choosing pork, and especially chicken, over beef can lower your diet's environmental impact.
