  • CARFAC Alberta welcomes expressions of interest from artists and arts professionals from diverse backgrounds and visual art practices willing to serve on the Elton + Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize jury as an assessor.

    Eligible jurors must be 18+ and reside outside of the greater Edmonton region / amiskwaciy-waskâhikan. The greater Edmonton region is defined as the City of Edmonton, the Counties of Sturgeon, Parkland, Leduc and Strathcona, and the communities of Enoch Cree Nation, Alexander First Nation, Paul First Nation, and Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation.

    Prize background

    The Eldon + Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize was established with the generous support of the Eldon + Anne Foote Fund at Edmonton Community Foundation and in partnership with the Edmonton Arts Council and CARFAC Alberta.

    This prize is open to Edmonton area artists nominated by an individual or gallery/organization located in the Greater Edmonton area (Greater Edmonton, as defined by the Edmonton Community Foundation, includes the City of Edmonton and its four surrounding counties and indigenous communities.

    Entries may be in any visual arts media and must have been shown in a Greater Edmonton area exhibition space during 2025 (January 1st, 2025 - December 31st, 2025) or in an online exhibition during that same time period. Submissions are judged by an independent jury selected by CARFAC Alberta. Submission deadline is Monday January 19th, 2026 at 3pm. The prize winners will be announced at a ceremony in spring 2026.

    PRIZE: One winning artist will receive a $15,000 cash prize. Two additional shortlisted artists will receive $5,000 each in cash prizes.

    Prize recommendations will be based on an evaluation of the artistic merits of a specific work, or collection of work, by a knowledgeable group of peers.

    Jurors will be charged with basing their decisions on the artwork's merits, including originality, creativity, relevance, and technical excellence. In all cases the prizes will attempt to recognize the highest standards of artistic achievement, regardless of the artist's particular mode of expression, or style within the genre.

    Jurors will receive the nomination packages for independant review early February, and will be required to meet online once to determine the winners late February/first week of March at a mutually agreed upon time.

    A shortlist of jurors will be selected late January. Selected jurors will receive an honorarium of $550.
