Interested candidates are required to submit a resumé, cover letter, three (3) audition video recordings as well as an optional fourth recording, and a list of prepared repertoire.
For your resume:
Your resume should include all relevant education, work, and performance experience and be limited to two (2) pages.
For your cover letter:
We want to know more about who you are and your aspirations! Your cover letter should explain how your participation in Summer Institute will help you achieve your career goals and be limited to one (1) page.
For your list of prepared repertoire:
Your list may include, but is not limited to the following: art songs and arias, oratorio, musical theater, spirituals, solos from concert works such as a Mozart's Requiem and Mendelssohn's Elijah or others, and solos from any genre of music.
For your recordings, please submit the following:
- A song from the African Diaspora (including, but not limited to Gospel, Spiritual, Jazz, R&B, etc.).
- A contrasting piece (musical theater, Western and traditional art songs, and arias are welcome).
- Submit one additional video that represents you fully in your element. This selection should highlight a style, genre, piece, or musical practice that feels like your personal “jam”—something that reflects who you are as an artist and musician and showcases work you are especially proud of. There are no genre restrictions for this submission.
- A spoken word or rap piece. This submission is optional.
