    Supporting MaterialsWork samples and letters of support are essential parts of your application. These materials help demonstrate your artistic ability, commitment to the art form, the feasibility of your work plan, and the significance of the tradition to your community. Applications without these materials will not be eligible for review. If you are unable to submit any required materials, please contact the program coordinator to discuss alternatives.
  • Artist Mentor Work Sample Requirements:

    • Visual artists/craftspeople: Submit 6-8 images (photographs or digital images).
    • Musicians: Submit 2-3 recorded performance examples (links to audio or video).
    • Dancers/performing artists: Submit 2-3 recorded performance examples (links to videos).
    • Storytellers/verbal artists: Submit 2-3 recorded performance examples or 2-3 written examples of representative works.

    Accepted File Types:

    • Images: JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, PDF.
    • Audio: please link to the audio or video hosted online (e.g. Youtube, Spotify). You may link to a Google Drive or Dropbox if the material is viewable to anyone with the link
    • Video: please link to the video hosted online (e.g. Youtube, Spotify). You may link to a Google Drive or Dropbox if the material is viewable to anyone with the link
    • Written samples: PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT.
    • Links to online materials/websites: Ensure links are active, properly formatted, and do not require a password to access.
  • ARTIST MENTOR - Work Samples

    Please list your work samples along with brief descriptions and URLs (if applicable). Descriptions should include relevant information such as dates, details of the pieces, and any necessary context. If the work sample includes other individuals or their work, clearly identify your contributions. NOTE: video and audio files are not accepted. Please share links to your video or audio and ensure that the files are viewable by anyone with the link

  • Artist Mentor Letter of Support


    Submit one (1) letter from someone familiar with the mentor’s qualifications and the apprenticeship's community impact. This person could be a folklorist, arts administrator, peer, or community member knowledgeable about the mentor’s work. The letter should include:

    • The recommender’s background/position and relation to the mentor.
    • The mentor’s artistic ability, teaching/mentoring experience, and commitment to the traditional art form.
    • The importance of the tradition to the community.
    • Why this apprenticeship is important for sustaining the tradition.

    Include the sender's letterhead (if applicable).
    Typed in Times, Helvetica, or similar font, no smaller than 12-point, double-spaced, or neatly printed.

    Submit the letter with the application or email it directly to jramirez@texasfolklife.org.
