The Center for Adolescent, Elderly, and Community Care (CAECC)’s Youth Volunteer Program offers students a meaningful opportunity to learn, lead, and serve through intergenerational community engagement. Youth volunteers work alongside their peers and older adults completing activities that promote connection, mutual learning, and community well-being. Through hands-on participation, students gain empathy, leadership skills, and a deeper understanding of the value of caring across generations.
The program is open to students in 3rd grade through 12th grade. Students in younger grades may apply only if an older sibling in 3rd grade or above is also participating. Youth volunteers can expect to commit up to four hours every other weekend, which may include setting up activities, engaging with older adults, assisting with clean-up, and participating in planning and reflection sessions.
Parents and caregivers play an important role in the success of this program. Families are responsible for transportation to and from assigned sites and are encouraged to participate in intergenerational programs, community events, and CAECC’s Volunteer Advocacy Team. This shared involvement helps reinforce positive values, strengthen family connections, and build a supportive community around our youth volunteers.
CAECC’s Youth Volunteer Program is designed to be safe, enriching, and developmentally appropriate, offering students a chance to make a real impact while growing as compassionate, engaged community members.
