JOB DESCRIPTION: Excavation Laborer - Site Work & Utilities
Full-Time | Long-Term | Residential & Light Commercial Construction
Zimmerman Building Company is seeking a dependable and hardworking Excavation Laborer to join our growing site work and utility crews. This position supports excavation, underground utility installation, grading, concrete work, and general site development on residential and light commercial projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist excavation and utility crews with daily site work operations.
- Work in and around trenches installing water, sewer, storm, and drainage systems.
- Assist with utility installation, grading, backfilling, compaction, and site restoration.
- Support concrete crews with excavation, preparation, forming, and related site work as needed.
- Drive dump trucks to transport materials, aggregates, spoil, and equipment between job sites.
- Assist equipment operators with trenching, pipe installation, and excavation activities.
- Load, unload, and organize materials, tools, and equipment.
- Set grade stakes, check elevations, and assist with layout activities.
- Safely operate hand tools, compactors, saws, pumps, and other construction equipment.
- Follow all OSHA, company, and jobsite safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and productive work environment.
- Work closely with foremen, operators, and fellow crew members to keep projects moving efficiently.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in excavation, underground utility installation, concrete construction, or related site work preferred.
- Working knowledge of excavation safety, utility installation practices, and construction site operations.
- Ability to read a tape measure and understand basic grades and elevations.
- Valid driver's license required with a clean driving record.
- Experience driving dump trucks and hauling materials is preferred.
- CDL is a plus but not required.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, digging, and working in varying weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow directions.
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.
- Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and active construction sites.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and maintain a drug-free work environment.
