  • 2026 CMC WinterMusic Health Precautions

    Initial release: January 1, 2026
  • Please read these precautions carefully BEFORE YOU RESERVE, so that you have a complete awareness and understanding of what to expect of us and what we expect of you. It is essential that all attendees comply with our precautions to protect the health of our community.

These precautions were determined after consultation with experts in the fields of infectious disease and occupational health and safety. If we make any changes to the precautions as specified here, we will notify all attendees prior to WinterMusic.

    • COVID-19 Vaccination: We strongly recommend that all WinterMusic attendees (whether overnight or commuting) be up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccination status, which, according to the CDC, means receiving a COVID-19 vaccination on or after August 27, 2025. To be effective for WinterMusic, the vaccine should be administered no later than January 30, 2026. The vaccine may be from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or Novavax.

This recommendation stems from CMC’s deep and serious concern for each of our WinterMusic attendees, including many who may be members of particularly vulnerable groups.
    • Testing: You must acquire and self-administer two rapid antigen tests before you travel; you will take one test 2 days before you arrive at WinterMusic, and the second test on the day that you will arrive at WinterMusic. For most attendees, this means testing on Thursday and Saturday before you travel to Stony Point. You are responsible for procuring these rapid antigen tests. Special note about testing for commuters who leave Stony Point and return another day: You must either test each day that you arrive at Stony Point OR commit to wearing a high-quality mask if you go anywhere other than your home while you’re away from Stony Point.
    • Prearrival Precautions: We ask for thoughtful caution and masking during the week leading up to your arrival at WinterMusic in order to reduce the chances that you bring illness to the event. Activities that are of particular concern include:
      • indoor eating/drinking at restaurants or bars
      • gatherings with people other than those in your household
      • being unmasked indoors with people other than members of your household
      • travel on public transportation
Even if you test negative for COVID-19, if you have any symptoms of illness shortly before arriving, whether they seem to be mild or something more concerning, please let us know (wintermusic@cmceast.org) and we can determine the best course forward.
    • Precautions While At WinterMusic:
      • Masking: Under current conditions, masking will not be required. If this changes we will notify attendees.
      • Symptoms: We request that if you develop any symptoms of illness while at the event, you isolate from others and reach out to a CMC staff member before departing SPC (wintermusic@cmceast.org).

  • CMC's Guiding Principles for Our Conduct

  • Adopted 3 July 2018

This page offers guiding principles for the personal conduct of members of our community, including participants, auditors, faculty, and staff.

    Principles

We seek to create and maintain a strong sense of community, helping one another learn and grow. Our community is founded on values of respect for one another and for the music we study and play.

Members of our community treat all with fairness, civility, and understanding. We prepare for our roles in the Conference and use our best efforts in fulfilling them. We listen with full attention and embrace feedback. We accept that we all have things to learn.

We protect the well-being of the Conference and contribute to a positive and safe environment that values both people and property. We avoid negative behaviors such as violence, substance abuse, discrimination, harassment, ridicule, and bullying. Those in possession of Conference assets, including confidential information and financial resources, protect them faithfully.

No document can anticipate every future scenario. The negative behaviors described above are examples of problematic behavior that could damage the Conference.

Most problems arise from misunderstandings that can readily be solved. In the rare case of a severe breach of our community values, consequences may affect an individual’s status with the Conference.

Behavior outside the Conference is immaterial except to the extent that it may bear on the individual’s effectiveness at the Conference or significantly impact the Conference’s reputation.

    Process for Addressing Concerns

To address concerns related to conduct, we take the following steps:

    • A concerned person (for example, a participant, auditor, faculty member, or staff member) raises the matter with the Executive Director.
    • Based on the concern, the Executive Director assesses the need for involvement of the Executive Committee of the Board.
    • For situations judged to be readily addressed, the Executive Director addresses the situation.
    • For more serious situations, including any situation that may lead to impact on an individual’s status with the Conference, the Executive Director involves the Executive Committee. Any resolution that impacts an individual’s status with the Conference must be approved by the Executive Committee.
    • If the concerned person prefers, if the matter is urgent and the Executive Director is not available, or if the Executive Director cannot play a neutral role, for reasons such as having direct involvement in the matter or a close relationship with someone involved, the issue may be brought instead to a member of the Executive Committee.
    • In the course of addressing a concern, the Executive Director and/or the Executive Committee consult other parties as appropriate.

  • Waiver and Release of Liability

  • In consideration of being allowed to attend the 2026 CMC event at Stony Point Center (“CMC WinterMusic”), which is an event and activity of The Chamber Music Conference and Composers’ Forum of the East, Inc. (the “Conference”), I hereby:

    • Agree that if I become aware that any of the facilities used by the Conference for its activities are or may be unsafe, I will immediately advise the CMC WinterMusic Coordinator, the CMC Executive Director, and the CMC Board Chair of such conditions (via wintermusic@cmceast.org).
    • Assume all of the risks and accept personal responsibility for any damages I may incur due to injury, illness, disability, or death (including, without limitation, any damages resulting from exposure to COVID-19), relative to attendance at CMC WinterMusic and related events and activities.
    • Release, waive, and discharge from responsibility the Conference, any affiliate thereof, and its Officers, Board of Directors, employees, and agents (collectively the “Released Parties”) from any demands, claims, losses, or damages I may have or incur on account of injury (including death or damage to property) caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the Released Parties or otherwise at or in connection with CMC WinterMusic.  I also covenant not to sue the Conference with respect to any such demands, claims, losses, or damages.
    • Acknowledge and agree that any photographs of me taken at CMC WinterMusic can be used by The Chamber Music Conference and Composers’ Forum of the East, Inc. in connection with its websites and other promotional activities.

  • Stony Point Center's Guidelines for Groups

  • Stony Point Center (SPC) has advised us of specific rules that apply to the use of Gilmor Sloane House (GSH) and other facilities as well. By registering for WinterMusic 2026, you are agreeing to abide by the following rules with respect to all premises and facilities at Stony Point Center:

    • The furniture at GSH should remain as arranged – many pieces are fragile antiques which require skilled handling. Coasters or saucers should be placed under all drinks.
    • A guest hospitality area is in the first-floor hallway, equipped with refrigerator, microwave, and hot water. Another small refrigerator is available in the third-floor hallway. Please note: The house has a commercial kitchen certified by the Rockland County Health Department. For this reason, it is closed for guest use.
    • There are three thermostats on the first floor. When adjusting one, please do so for all three as they will be more effective when in sync. Locations: outside small sitting room in hallway, large sitting room by piano and in hallway by amenities station.
    • There is limited parking for 14 cars at GSH – remember to ensure that Fire Lanes remain open. Additional parking is available in the large parking lot near Evergreen (main building).
    • Like all buildings on Stony Point Center campus, GSH is smoke-free.
    • Candles are only permitted for ceremonial purposes and with Stony Point Center staff authorization.
    • Space in GSH is provided for discussion meetings of no more than 20 persons in the large parlor and 25 persons in the large dining room. SPC asks that nothing be attached to the walls. Although some tapes have been specifically formulated to avoid damage, all tapes leave a residue on wall surfaces.
    • Many items in the cupboards in GSH are from the original Gilmor home and are not available for our use. Baskets, bowls and cups are available upon request.
    • SPC’s policies do not permit them to serve alcohol. When we, CMC, provide it for our own group, please remember that all attendees are personally responsible for their own safety (including while driving from the Center), and note that SPC will hold CMC responsible for any damage to their property.
    • Please leave GSH in the condition in which we found it. If there is loss or damage the cost will be charged to the responsible parties.
    • Upon departure from GSH or Maple Lodge, please leave bedroom doors unlocked and return the key to SPC.
