What is your ideal shearing month(s)? The months listed below are the only months we have openings for.*

If you are lambing, when? For everyone's safety (but mostly your sheep's), we discourage shearing within 4 weeks of earliest due dates, while ewes are nursing lambs, and 1-2 weeks after weaning.*

How many sheep do you have to shear?*
It's okay if this number changes by a few before your appointment. Send us a message if this changes significantly between now and shearing.
What breed(s) of sheep do you have to shear?*
This helps us estimate how many minutes/sheep during shearing.
How many times will the shearer need to move their set up to a new spot?*
If we only need to set up once, put "0". Setting up more than once requires more time and may mean an additional charge for that time.
Preparing for Shearing

All of the information below can also be found on our website, www.yankeerockfarm.com, under Shearing - Preparation and Contact.
Sheep must be penned up near the shearing area the night before shearing.*

I understand. I will not wait until the last minute to put sheep in a catch pen.
Sheep must be dry to shear. If you lay a tissue on your sheep and it gets damp, they are too wet to shear.*

I have facilities to keep sheep locked inside and dry from rain and snow.I do not have a facility to keep sheep locked in and dry. I understand that makes my appointment weather-dependent and I need to let my shearer know if the forecast is bad.
Sheep must have NO food for 20 hours prior to shearing and water must be removed from the catch pen before we start shearing. Sheep WILL step in or knock over water while you catch them and then be wet.*

I understand sheep cannot have ANY hay, pasture, or grain for 20 hours before shearing and water should not be in the catch pen during shearing.
Shearing should be done in a clean, safe area. This means dry, well lit, mostly level, and where other animals (especially guard animals) won't run into us, kick us, bite us, or ram us.*

I understand I should provide a safe surface to work - preferably with plywood, rubber mat, or wooden barn floor.I understand skirting should not happen on the shearing board, holding up shearing.
We shear primarily with electric shears. We can blade shear and have one small machine that runs on battery.*

I can provide a source for electricity.I have 15 or less sheep and electricity is not accessible.
We do not recommend vaccinating or deworming with shearing. This creates more stress for sheep, reduces medication effectiveness, and we've been jabbed with too many needles holding your sheep for you.*

I understand the shearer will not be administering drugs to my sheep OR restraining them while I administer them.
Pricing & Logistics
Our minimum charge is $150, so if the total charge would be less than $150 (ex. 2 sheep x $15 + $100 = $130) we will charge $150.

Flocks Less than 50 Head
- $80-100 set-up and travel fee
- $8-15/head
Flocks of 50 or More
- $70-100 set-up fee
- $5-7/head for adults
- $4-5/head for lambs
If you need to cancel or reschedule, let us know as soon as possible.*

I understand if I cancel the day before my scheduled appointment, I will be charged a $50 missed appointment fee.
If we arrive for a shearing appointment and sheep are not penned, not dry, and not fasted we WILL NOT shear. These conditions are UNSAFE for YOUR SHEEP and shearer.*

I understand the shearer has the right to refuse to shear if they show up to sheep not penned, not dry, and not fasted.I understand if conditions are not safe enough to shear, as outlined above, I will be charged a $100 missed appointment/travel fee.
