WFX-FIT Test Open House

The Manitoba Wildfire Service is providing anyone who is interested in applying to work as an Initial Attack Crew Member in Manitoba an opportunity to attempt the WFX-FIT Test at before applying to the position (no cost).
WFX-FIT is an unbiased, valid and reliable assessment of the ability of Wildland Firefighters (WFF) to meet the rigorous demands required to safely and efficiently complete the critical emergency tasks involved in wildland fire fighting in Canada.

Please bring to the test:

• Photo Identification
• Exercise Attire (running shoes, exercise clothing)
• Water bottle

Preliminary Instructions:

• Please arrive 15 minutes prior to appointment time
• Do not smoke 2 hours prior to the test
• Do not eat a heavy meal during the two hours prior to the test and refrain from drinking caffeine or alcoholic beverages prior to the test
• Do not exercise vigorously in the 24hrs prior to the test
• Prior to undergoing the WFX-FIT Test, participants must complete the PAR-Q+ form
• As part of screening, your blood pressure will be taken prior to the test and must be less than 160/90mmHg to proceed with the test

Requirement for Physician's Clearance:

If you possess two or more of the following major coronary risk factors:

• A family history of heart attack or sudden death before 55 years of age
• Currently smoke tobacco (eg. Cigarettes, cigars, etc.)
• Have high blood pressure (equal to or greater than 160/90mmHg)
• Have diabetes mellitus
• Have high blood cholesterol
• Are physically inactive

Or

• If you are over the age of 45 and NOT accustomed to regular (minimum 4 days a week for 6 weeks) vigorous to maximal effort (intensity) exercise

You will be required to receive clearance from a physician before taking the WFX-FIT Test (ONLY if you meet the conditions listed above). If this applies to you, please email veronica.hall@gov.mb.ca to receive the necessary documents to provide to your physician in advance of the test.

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BRING COMPLETED COPY OF PAR-Q+ (PHYSICAL ACTIVITY READINESS QUESTIONAIRE) TO THE TEST.

Important Notes:

• Once registered, we will send a confirmation email to your email address provided. The week before the test date, we will call you to confirm your attendance. 
• Passing this test is a condition of employment for the “FR2 - Initial Attack Fire Crew Member” position with Manitoba Wildfire Service (MWS).
• Passing this test does NOT guarantee an individual a job with MWS.
• If an individual passes the test, their test is only valid for 90 days after that date.
• If an individual is hired AFTER that 90 days, they will have to re-run the test at their work location their first day of work.
• WFX-Fit Test appraisers are obligated to stop any participants from taking the test if they do not pass the screening and clearance process.
