  • Thank you for your interest in serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Hero to a Child. Serving on the board is a rewarding experience and an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Completing this form will help you understand the skills and time/resource commitments of this leadership position. You may find it helpful to read through the entire application and Board Member Responsibilities before you begin filling it out.

  • Please return the completed application by October 31st to Hero To A Child, Attn: Erin Authier-Lohr by email to erina@herotoachild.org Interviews will be held throughout in early November

  • This application will be kept confidential in the Hero To A Child office. Applications are reviewed by the Board Development Committee to identify and evaulate potential board candidates. All new directors are elected by a majority vote of current board members during the November board meeting. Newly elected board members will begin serving January 1st (those joining after Jan 1st will also be considered as part of that class of board members).

  • BOARD MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Serve a one-year Freshman term on the Board. Eligible to serve an additional two (2) two-year terms if re-elected or three (3) if one is served on Executive Committee.
    • Attend a minimum of 50% of all Board Meetings (held bi-monthly) and events including Annual Meeting and Board Social. Board meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of the month. Jan, Mar, May, July, Sept, Nov (Nov. adjusted as needed for Thanksgiving holiday)
    • Make Hero to a Child your philanthropic priority. Participate in the advancement of the organization’s strategic plan through fundraising and volunteer recruitment.
    • Support the Hero to a Child mission and financial goals through an annual give/get of $1,500 in financial support, including a personal financial gift at a level that is meaningful to you.
    • Provide organizational oversight to ensure legal, financial, and ethical integrity.
    • Chair or serve on one Hero to a Child committee each year. Committees include but are not limited to: Donor Engagement, Board Development, Finance, Advocacy, Communications, and Executive.
    • Act as an ambassador for the organizations mission and promote its work in the community to bring new partners, volunteers, and board members in.
