Exploring Pen & Ink: Techniques, Textures, and Nature Drawing

Fridays, February 6th & 13th from 10:00am-12:00pm

Explore the versatile world of pen and ink in this hands-on workshop! Experiment with India ink, acrylic inks, water-based drawing inks, and pigment inks while drawing objects from nature or small still life setups in your sketchbook or journal. Discover how different pens and inks create unique lines, textures, and expressive marks, and explore combining ink with wet media like watercolor or colored inks.

In this class, you’ll:
-Practice dip pens, acrylic inks, and pigment pens to draw from life
-Learn essentials like light and shadow, contour, volume, and texture
-Explore ink behavior on sketchbook paper and combine it with wet media for expressive effects

By the end, you’ll be able to:
-Confidently use various pens and inks, understanding dye-based vs. pigment-based differences
-Handle water-resistant and non-water-resistant inks
-Draw simple natural objects using line, stippling, and wash techniques to create shade, volume, and texture
-Perfect for artists looking to experiment, expand their skills, and bring fresh texture and energy to their drawings.
