Thank you for your interest in applying to be a Chair at NMUN•NY!
Chairs support Conference Staff by assisting in the logistical and procedural facilitation of the committee. Serving as a Chair is a way for delegates to take on an alternative role at NMUN and practice a different set of skills.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
NMUN replicates the United Nations system by allowing its delegates to serve as committee Chairpersons - short Chairs. Committee Chairs work with the Director and Assistant Director to facilitate the proceedings of the committee. Those serving in a Chair position are still considered to be a representative of their delegation, not a part of the Secretariat or NMUN Staff, but assist the Secretariat by:
- Administering the rules of procedure
- Assisting with committee logistics, including responding to administrative questions, tracking working papers, and monitoring the list of speakers
- Observing and tracking committee working groups
- Conducting spot research at the request of the Secretariat
As they continue to represent their delegation but have taken on an administrative position, Chairs do not provide substantive input or feedback to other delegations.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a working knowledge of the NMUN Rules of Procedure and a professional presence on the Dais. Chair applicants should generally have prior model United Nations experience, particularly at NMUN conferences. While delegates of all experience levels are welcome to apply, those with at least one year of NMUN experience are preferred, as are delegates that will not cause a vacancy in a committee by serving as a Chair.
DEADLINES
Delegates need to submit their application by 11:59 pm Eastern on 8 March for priority consideration. Applications submitted after the deadline may not be considered.
INTERVIEW
Interviews for applicants will be conducted online prior to the conference. You will receive an email confirming the platform and timing.
TRAINING
Delegates who are selected for the position of Chair are required to attend a training session, run by the NMUN•NY Secretariat, on Sunday 29 March (Conf. A) or Monday 06 April (Conf. B) from 2:30 - 4:30 pm. Timing is subject to change.
