WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?

•  A resident of Houston or surrounding areas within a 100-mile radius

• A graduating high school senior, with an overall GPA of 2.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale), admitted to Grambling State University for the fall 2026 semester
       

  OR

• A student currently enrolled in Grambling State University, returning for the fall 2026 semester, with overall GPA of 3.0 or above
       

  OR

• A transfer student, enrolling in Grambling State University for the fall 2026 semester, with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale). The college in which you are transferring from does not have to be in the Houston area. 

ITEMS NEEDED
Please make sure you have the following documents when completing the application. All documents must be uploaded. The application must be completed in one session. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

• Official High School Transcript, with 4.0 SCALE GPA CLEARLY STATED (FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN AND TRANSFERS ONLY)
• High resolution headshot (300 psi or above, if uploading)
• Essay on one of the topics below (500 words)
  • Topic 1-Tell us why you have chosen to attend Grambling State University.
  • Topic 2-How do you believe Grambling State will prepare you for your chosen career field.
• Official SAT or ACT scores (FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN ONLY)

If you are selected to receive a scholarship, it is required for you or a representative to attend the Annual GramFam Fest Crawfish Boil and Fish Fry. Scholarship recepients will honored during this event. The tentative date is April 2026.

Topic 1-Tell us why you have chosen to attend Grambling State University.

Topic 2-How do you believe Grambling State will prepare you for your chosen career field.

1. I am a Houston area student and reside within a 100-mile radius who will be enrolled at Grambling State University in the fall of 2026.

2. I will use the proceeds of any scholarships received for the payment of books and supplies and/or tuition.

3. I will contact the DLW Scholarship Committee if changes occur to any information submitted in this application.

4. I understand that submission of this application contributes permission to use my name and photograph for promotional purposes.

5. In the event I receive a scholarship, I agree to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours of service to the alumni association during the fall/spring semesters of the school year.

6. Any item not submitted by the deadline or is incomplete, will void my application.

7. I understand communications are primarily sent via email. I will check the email address listed often and respond to correspondences accordingly.

8. If I receive a scholarship, I understand it is required for me or a representative to attend the Annual GramFam Fest Crawfish Boil and Fish Fry. Scholarship recepients will honored during this event. The tentative date is April 2026.
