How many people live in your household, and is everyone in your household okay with fostering?

If you have pets, can you separate the pets in the beginning and then slowly introduce them on neutral ground? In case they don't get along, can you separate them until a new foster is found, which can sometimes take days or weeks?

Will you let the dog decompress for some days after his arrival, and not overwhelm him/her after the stressful environment. Overwhelming interactions can include: too many visitors, too early introduction with other pets or children, or showering them with too much love and affection. Also check the 3:3:3 rules. Is this okay for you and manageable?

Can you walk the dog multiple times a day and physically and mentally stimulate him?

Do you have a pool? If yes, is it secured?

Would you be able to drive the dog to vet visits and adoption events (usually not more than once a month)

Dogs need time and patience after they have left the shelter as they might howl, bark, or be destructive and not potty or leash trained. Are you willing and able to work through any issues like separation anxiety, potty training, leash training, and are you willing to crate-train the dog if needed?

In case the dog you’d like to foster is for any reason not available any more (already rescued/ adopted or euthanized), would you be open to foster another urgent dog in need ?

Where will the dog spend most of his/her time? Will you foster the dog indoors and will he be part of your daily routine (stay with you and will be a part of the family)

a) Are the cats used to dogs? Have they ever been around dogs in the home?

b) Can you safely separate the dog from the cats — ideally with two doors or at least one room in between as a safety buffer? And if they don’t get along, are you able to continue fostering while keeping them safely separated until a new foster is found? (Please keep in mind this could take several days or even weeks.)

c) Are you willing and able to slowly and carefully introduce them? This usually takes a lot of time, patience, and effort — often weeks or even months. Some dogs might never get along with cats.
