2026 Goetemann Gloucester Artist Award (GGAA)

    The Opportunity

The Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC) is pleased to announce that it is accepting proposals for its 2026 Goetemann Gloucester Artist Award. Proposals may be submitted at any time during the year, but will be juried for the coming season in April, allowing artists sufficient time to prepare for the working month of October.

The GGAA was initiated by Rocky Neck artist Ruth Mordecai in 2015 and is an extension of The Goetemann Artist Residency (GAR), which was created in 2005 by Rocky Neck artist Gordon Goetemann.

Previous recipients have included Gloucester artists Jeffrey Marshall, Phoebe Potts, Stevens Brosnihan, Terry Del Percio, Jason Burroughs, Robin Colodzin, Loren Doucette and Deb Read.

    The Goal

The GGAA was created specifically to encourage a talented Gloucester artist to explore, expand, and move through his or her process with some financial help. The chosen artist is provided a $1,000 stipend to pursue and explore in a studio practice for one month. The stipend can be used used to continue a current project, fund a creative new direction or “kickstart” a new project. We assume this is a time of growth so we just require an indication of the direction of the new work.

    Eligibility

    • Artists must live in Gloucester or have an art studio in Gloucester.
    • Artists must be current members of the Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC). To check your membership status email director@rockyneckartcolony.org. To join or renew: https://rockyneckartcolony.org/become-a-member/
    • Funds must be used by December 31, 2026
    • Artists are required to give an opening talk at the Rocky Neck Cultural Center at the beginning of the month and to host an informal discussion at their studio space at the end of the 1-month period.
    • Artists are expected to have a minimum of one open-studio session, where the public is invited to the artist studio to observe and discuss the artist’s process.
